Played mostly right tackle in his career before moving to left tackle his senior season. Played in 52 games overall, making 48 career starts. Tied for sixth on the South Carolina all-time list for games played, ranked third in career starts and second in consecutive starts behind only center T.J. Johnson at the time of his departure.

Great uncle is 1989 Pro Football Hall of Fame inductee Art Shell, a former tackle who participated in 24 playoff contests (including Super Bowls XI and XV) and was named to eight Pro Bowls. Art was also the second African-American head coach in the history of professional football. Majored in sociology.
