One of top defensive backs in LSU history. Played in 37 games with 26 starts, including every game in 2015 and 2016. Finished career with 209 tackles, 17.5 tackles for loss, five interceptions and two sacks. First-team All-America and First-team All-SEC in 2016 when he was the leader of an LSU defense that allowed only 16 touchdowns all season. Freshman All-America in 2014 and second-team All-SEC as a sophomore in 2015. Played for three different coordinators during his LSU career. In three years at LSU, played on two units that ranked in the top 10 in the nation in total defense (No. 9 in 2015 with 316.8 ypg; No. 10 in 2017 with 314.4 ypg) and in the top five in scoring defense (No. 5 in 2015 with 17.2 ppg; No. 5 in 2016 with 15.8 ppg).
Father, George Adams, was a former first-round selection by the N.Y. Giants at running back in 1985. The pair, described as, "similar in anything that they do," by Jamal's mother, Michelle, who added to the New York Post, "The trash-talking between them never stops," so much so that growing up, Jamal, who wears 33 like his father, made a bet with his dad, the 19th-overall selection, that he would be taken higher in the draft. Rated as a composite five-star safety and the No. 31 overall player by 247Sports.com at Hebron High School. Ranked as the No. 1 safety prospect in the nation by Scout.com and the No. 18 overall prospect and third-best Texas recruit by ESPN.com. Participated in the Under Armour All-America All-Star Game. Honored as a selection to the 247Sports Top 247. Accumulated 138 tackles over his final two high school seasons along with seven interceptions and four passes defensed. Made an impact offensively with 62 carries for 453 yards and 11 touchdowns while also snagging 19 receptions for 477 yards and nine touchdowns over his final two seasons. Named the District 5-5A MVP in his senior season.
