Seahawks Round-Up: Week 2 Of Training Camp, John Schneider's Contract Extension And More

All the Seahawks news you might have missed from this week.

Good afternoon, 12s. Here's a look at what's going on out there and any news you might have missed, about your Seattle Seahawks this week.

Training Camp Week 2

The Seahawks are nearing the end of Week 2 of training camp that concludes with Football Fest at Lumen Field on Saturday.

After practice on Thursday head coach Mike Macdonald said, "Great practice. Longest practice so far. Physical, good stuff, a lot of situational work we're going through, all three units doing good stuff. (I'm) excited to watch the tape and we're over halfway through this week, which is a critical week for us. We'll look forward to putting an exclamation point on it tomorrow and Saturday."

Ranking NFL team talent under 25: Texans, Seahawks lead list

ESPN analyst Aaron Schatz put together a list of NFL teams in order from youngest talent. The list was based on a few requirements that include:

  • Starts by players under 25
  • Snaps by players under 25
  • Value and length of player contracts

The Seahawks come in at No. 2 on the list.

2024 ranking: 10

Blue-chip players: CB Devon Witherspoon, DT Byron Murphy II, WR Jaxon Smith-Njigba

Notable graduated players: None

The Seahawks climb eight spots on our list for a few reasons. First, 23-year-old Smith-Njigba had a breakout 2024 season, catching 100 passes for 1,130 yards and six touchdowns. Second, they drafted a young quarterback in Jalen Milroe -- and even young quarterbacks from the third round have value here. And third, they added a whole year of draft picks without having any important players age out of consideration for this list.

Other than Smith-Njigba, the best of the Seahawks' young players is 24-year-old slot cornerback Witherspoon. In his first two seasons, Witherspoon has recorded 177 tackles, 4 sacks and 25 passes defensed. The rest of the young defense includes last year's first-round pick, 22-year-old Murphy, as well as 24-year-old edge rusher Derick Hall and 21-year-old second-round rookie safety Nick Emmanwori.

The Seahawks also have more youth on offense with 24-year-old running backs Kenneth Walker III and Zach Charbonnet, plus the left side of the offensive line, where left tackle Charles Cross and left guard rookie Grey Zabel are both under age 25.

EA Madden Ratings

Over the past week EA's Madden started releasing player's rating and finally released the full list. This year the two highest rated players are Devon Witherspoon and Kenneth Walker III who both were rated an 88.
