Good afternoon, 12s. Here's a look at what's going on out there and any news you might have missed, about your Seattle Seahawks.

The Seahawks are preparing to play in Super Bowl LX against the New England Patriots and here is some news to get you caught up on all for the game.

Jaxon Smith-Njigba Wins AP Offensive Player Of The Year

Opposite Personalities, Same Goal: Devon Witherspoon & Jaxon Smith-Njigba Set A Goal To Get Here On Day 1

Jaxon Smith-Njigba and Devon Witherspoon who were drafted together in the first round of the 2023 NFL Draft set out to get the Seahawks to a Super Bowl and are on the cusp of finishing out that goal.

Seahawks Showing That Super Bowl Week Is 'The Ultimate Place For Being Loose And Focused'

Despite the high stakes involved, the Seahawks are the same loose and focused team that they have been all season.

Mike Macdonald's Culture Is Founded On Familiar Seahawks Principles, But With A Unique Spirit

Family. Connectedness. Having each other's back.

These are all keys to the culture Seahawks head coach Mike Macdonald has built in Seattle that has gotten the team to being a win away from being crowned Super Bowl champions.

The words, which may just sound like sports buzzwords that could be used to describe any locker room, aren't just words the coaches or players throw around, they're filled with real meaning, emotions and were intentionally implemented by Macdonald.

When Macdonald was hired to be the head coach of the Seahawks two years ago, he was taking the reins of a team and locker room that already had an established culture that'd been in place for 14 seasons under Pete Carroll. There was a balance for Macdonald to keep the original undertone of the Seahawks, while also adding in his own style.

Sam Darnold Focused On Helping Seahawks Win A Super Bowl, Not Vindication

There are so many good storylines involving Seahawks quarterback Sam Darnold as he prepares to play in his first Super Bowl.

If only he were interested in any of them.

If Darnold, the former No. 3 pick of the New York Jets, can lead the Seahawks to a Super Bowl win, he can stick it to anyone who ever called him a bust, right? If he plays like he did two weeks earlier, leading the Seahawks to an NFC championship game win over the Rams, he can show the world that he is an elite big-game quarterback, something people questioned about him last year after the Vikings season ended with two straight losses. Surely that motivates Darnold, yes? And after winning 14 regular-season games in consecutive seasons, earning Pro-Bowl honors each year, surely Darnold would love to remind not one, not two, not three, but four teams that they once had him on their roster and chose to move on, right?

How Seattle's Practice Squad & Depth Players Was Seattle's Superpower This Season

When you look at Seattle's roster, it's not filled with superstars or big-name players. Yes, there are All-Pro and Pro Bowl-caliber players, but it is filled with linebackers who step into starting roles, safeties who can play in place of injured players and offensive linemen who can step in at the end of the season for an injured starter.

The depth of Seattle's roster is something that head coach Mike Macdonald takes pride in and it shows in how prepared every player is to step up at any time.

Linebacker Drake Thomas, an undrafted free agent, who's been with Seattle since 2023, stepped into a starting role this season after an injury sidelined Tyrice Knight during training camp. Thomas played in all 17 regular season games, starting 14 of them and every playoff game. In his first two seasons with Seattle, Thomas was mostly a special teams player.

So how did a special teams player take over a starting defensive role?

Head coach Mike Macdonald took the podium to take questions from media and talked all things defense, staying loose and focused as well as the team's journey to this point of the season.

Ernest Jones IV opens up about personal and professional trials over the past two years

Two summers ago, Ernest Jones IV was there when his son, Ernest V, came into this world. Just over a year later, he was present when his father, Ernest Jr., died at the age of 53.

In between those two huge life events, Jones had his professional life upturned, twice, before finding his home with the Seahawks.

First, he was traded by the Rams, with whom he had spent his first three seasons, winning a Super Bowl as a rookie, prior to the start of the 2024 season, a move that surprised Jones and teammates alike. Then, with his new team, the Titans, struggling last season, Jones was traded again, this time to the Seahawks, meaning a second cross-country move with a newborn baby in the span of a few months.

Last spring, Jones signed a multi-year contract extension, then spent his 2025 season helping lead the NFL's best defense as the Seahawks went 14-3 on their way to an NFC championship and a trip to Super Bowl LX. So, while Jones knows what it's like to play in, and win, the biggest game in his sport, the journey his life and career has taken him over the last two years has given him perspective to appreciate this return trip to the Super Bowl on a different level.

Nick Emmanwori is on track to play in Super Bowl LX despite injuring his ankle in Wednesday's practice.

Seahawks coach Mike Macdonald said Thursday that the rookie safety would go through Thursday's walkthrough and is expected to be available for Sunday's game against the Patriots after sustaining a low ankle sprain a day earlier.

@tylerdixon125 asks, "What's the long-term possibility of keeping the core of the team intact?"

A: Sheesh, Tyler, can't we enjoy the Super Bowl before worrying about the future? No? OK. Well like every NFL team, the Seahawks will have some turnover this offseason, that's just how things work in sports, and in the NFL in particular. But the Seahawks do have a chance to keep a lot of this team together in 2026 and beyond. Thanks to some really good drafts in recent years, many of their core players are still on rookie contracts with multiple years left, and they've also signed several other key players to multi-year extensions over the last two years, including Ernest Jones IV, Leonard Williams, Charles Cross and Abraham Lucas. There are some important players set to become free agents this offseason, including members of the 2022 draft class like Riq Woolen, Kenneth Walker III, Boye Mafe and Coby Bryant, as well as recent trade acquisition Rashid Shaheed. But overall, the Seahawks are set up very well to, as general manager John Schneider likes to phrase it, be a consistent, championship-caliber team well into the future.

The Seahawks get set to compete for a world championship as they will face off against the New England Patriots in Super Bowl LX on Sunday, February 8 at Levi's Stadium. The team will wear their all-college navy uniform combination as they look to win their second Super Bowl in franchise history.

Here are the five captains for Seattle's Super Bowl LX game against the Patriots:

  • WR Jaxon Smith-Njigba
  • CB Devon Witherspoon
  • FB Brady Russell
  • DE Leonard Williams
  • WR Cooper Kupp
