Seahawks head coach Mike Macdonald and Jaxon Smith-Njigba talked about the wealth of knowledge Cooper Kupp brings to Seattle's receiver room.

It's been four months since the Seahawks signed Cooper Kupp and from head coach Mike Macdonald to fellow receiver Jaxon Smith-Njigba, the experience having him in a Seahawks uniform has been a positive one.

"I'm happy he's on our team," Macdonald said. "I just couldn't be happier to have him as a Seahawk. All the things he does on the field, the attention to detail, the work ethic, the attitude, the enthusiasm, just as a leader of your program too."

Smith-Njigba said, "He brings a next level mindset. I'm super excited to be with him in that receiver room. Another stellar receiver, great receiver, and I'm just blessed to be in the room with him."

For Kupp, the last four months have been about building chemistry with his teammates, specifically his new quarterback, Sam Darnold.

"I think as many reps as you can get are huge, but it's even more than that," Kupp said. "Just the conversations over and over about talking football, watching film together and being able to just discuss what's happening. I think that's just as important as the reps you get out here on the practice field. And those have been great. Sam [Darnold] and the experiences that he's had playing in this offense before, it goes a long way because I'm asking a lot of questions about what's worked for him, how has he seen this of certain concepts come to life and it's been really fun to be able to kind of bounce ideas off of each other."

And in finding his footing in Seattle, Kupp credits the coaching staff for creating an environment where he can thrive.

"The coaches here have been awesome about just allowing there to be dialogue that goes both ways between the players and coaches and challenging each other in the right ways. So, it is something that is very important and that Mike's done a great job of fostering here."

While the staff has empowered players to have a voice, Macdonald in some ways looks to Kupp for his opinions on the team.

"He's seen a lot of great things," he said. "He's got a lot of great ideas and he's a guy that you kind of lean on when making decisions about what we want to do as a team as well. So I think he's definitely one of the top leaders on our football team."

For Kupp, one thing he's looking forward to is the offense reaching its full potential and he's confident it's heading in the right direction.

"As training camp goes on, there's going to be a point when all the playbook's in, right? And there's going to be a point where it's all down and you're like, 'Hey, we've been doing this for a while now' and now plays are recycling. You're like, 'Hey, I've seen this play before I've done this. I've run this a couple times now against different looks' and it's like, 'Hey, this is when things started to get real comfortable'. Now you're hearing plays in the huddle and you're not thinking about where you're lining up. You're thinking about leaving the huddle saying, 'man, I hope we get Cover 4 because I know exactly what I want to get done on this' and that's where you want to get to and will all these guys. We're going to get there. It is about continuing to challenge yourself, continue to think that way and push yourself to try to get there as quick as possible. But we're going to get there very soon and you've seen, there's glimpses of stuff that's really fun to see when we're watching the film because we've got guys that want to do that."

The Seahawks training camp practice intensity increased on Monday afternoon as the team put on pads for the first time on July 28, 2025.
