Head Coach Pete Carroll

PETE CARROLL: Really big day for us. Fantastic illustration of hanging in and staying in and keeping the belief going and giving ourselves a chance to win a football game. Beautiful illustration of that. I don't know, 30 seconds or something like that it took to win the football game. And to celebrate the throwbacks and all that, I hope the fans loved it. It was fun for us. It was a beautiful image in the stadium. It was really cool to see that. We didn't talk a whole lot about it here after the game, but I know the guys really did appreciate the opportunity to do that. I keep going back to all of the memories that everybody had. That's why they liked it so much, to see it, and I'm glad we could be part of it. It was really fun. Tough football game. These guys are really tough. They have the formula of playing great defense and running the football, and that's a formula that gives you a chance to win every time out. I thought P.J. Walker did a really good job to keep them moving and keep them in position to win the game. They did some things we needed to stop we didn't stop as well. Screens were a big part of the game. Didn't play the running game as well as we wanted to, but pretty much average for them. That's how they do it. But all in all, Geno leading that drive, guys keeping him clean up front so we could throw the ball to do what we needed to do to finish the game, guys coming through with catches, the touchdown play to win the game was a fantastic block by DK. Clean. The guy was looking right at him. That's the call they make sometimes. I thought he did it perfectly. Jaxon got every inch out of that play in really championship fashion. A lot of really cool, exciting things that happened today. Fired up about it.

Q. You said a good example of hanging in there. For the offense and Geno to go through that long...

PETE CARROLL: We started well. Looked so good starting out and just couldn't find the rhythm of it. That's because they're really good. And the fact that it's close, no surprise.

Q. To then be able to turn it on and get that drive at the end.

PETE CARROLL: Yeah, that's what we love about it. The finishing execution that gets you the win, we take great pride in that. We're always talking about and striving to do that. That's why I love this illustration that we can do that. Next time we get a chance we know that we've been there before.

Q. What did you see on the play got you the ball back, the interception? What did you see?

PETE CARROLL: Great call for one. They made a great call to give us a chance it send Mal (Jamal Adams) on the pressure. He had to figure out what to do with it, because I think the guard or someone, tackle was popping out on him and he had to do something, and he figured out how to leave his feet and get contact on the ball. Then there was a spectacular tips and overthrows for us. For Julian to come up and make a big play, we stole the opportunity from them with that play. It was really guys going for it, and I was thrilled about that.

Q. For all that Jamal has been through in the last year or so, to make a play like that...

PETE CARROLL: Man, this is what he lives for. He lives for these opportunities and to go for it when it was on the line. You know, right there, he came up with a way to figure it out and did something that changed our fortune in this game. Fantastic.

Q. Jake Bobo has been on those jet motions. Making blocks down at the goal line. What did you think about him getting the football down there?

PETE CARROLL: Yeah, we kind of thought if we hand it to him he's going to figure out how to get in there; he did. Wasn't perfect, but it was clean enough to get a score. So we continue to work him into everything we're doing because he's a good ball player. He needs to be part of it. You'll see him continue more have opportunities in different kinds of ways.

Q. (Regarding a call for holding.)

PETE CARROLL: Yeah, because when a guy runs around the block, you see the tight ends on the back side and front side as well, and he did it perfectly. Kept his hands in really tight and released at the right time so there was no penalty. Nothing wrong with that. Exactly the way you should do it, right when we needed it most.

Q. You were pretty heated at the end of the first half, the throw Geno had intercepted.

PETE CARROLL: I've been complaining about them in the neutral zone and thought I had one for sure, so when it didn't get called and then we turned the ball over on that same play, would've switched that whole result around. That's all. So I was just kind of competing.

Q. Jordyn Brooks, another big game. What's he been showing you last few weeks?

PETE CARROLL: He's on it. He's on his game. He's just playing great, physical football. He's a fantastic linebacker. He runs and he hits and he can make things happen. We keep trying to put him in places and just accentuate the fact he's that kind of factor. He's doing great.

Q. (Regarding Boye Mafe.) What have you seen from him?

PETE CARROLL: That he just continues to just play really solid, consistent football. He's kind of been doing it the whole time, for a month. Great to see. Really relying on him and he came through again.

Q. To only allow three hits on Geno and one sack on 37 dropbacks today, how do you feel about the O-line performance?

PETE CARROLL: I thought they did great. I thought they did great today. This is the most vicious rushing team in football today. They have had their way with a ton of teams with their front four. We were able to keep them at bay. I don't know that we dominated anything. We held on and gave up one sack. It was really exciting to see Jason Peters play today. I think he played about half the time. We just wanted to see what would happen, and then we were going to decide as the game went on and he did well, and so just kind of rotated him. That's just another boost for us to have an experienced player like that available to us. So I don't know what that means going forward anyway, but I was really fired up for him. He played in an NFL football game in his

20th season. Man, that's a remarkable accomplishment. So remarkable. Somebody has to go find George Blanda's record it goes back so far.

Q. What did you think of the your run game? Some of it came alive.

PETE CARROLL: I thought we were spotty. We had a couple big plays. Kenny had a big play. Zach looked really good at the end I thought when he had his opportunities. It's there. It's there. We haven't really found it to where we can really rely on it yet, but it's there. We just got to keep working it.

Q. Were you surprised you only got 13 running back carries out of the game the way it was flowing?

PETE CARROLL: Yeah, 11 in the first half; didn't run the ball much after that. You know, we took what they were giving us. We were protecting the passer better than we thought and, so we went with it and made some yards for us.

Q. What about their screen game?

PETE CARROLL: We were not surprised one bit. We practiced them all week and they did it anyway, so I was really disappointed in that. You know, they just had great success with it. Tight end looked great and the back. We were talking about it all game. We were on it. They just out-executed us. We got to do a lot better there.

Q. On playing well in the second halves of games this month.

PETE CARROLL: Good.

Q. What do you think about that?

PETE CARROLL: I'm thrilled about that. I'm thrilled about finishing halves like that. That's something we can continue to call on and rely on, and it makes you really hard to beat when you play like that in the second half, finish games.

Q. Thoughts on being the division leader.

PETE CARROLL: What week in the season? Week eight? Okay, so we're not quite halfway through the 17 game thing that nobody can ever get to halftime here. Halfway through, we're in pretty good shape. That's good. We're still growing. We got out of this game. I have no names for you as far as guys getting banged up, which is incredibly good. We just need to keep growing. It just felt like that. I know maybe that gets old to you hearing it, but when you do another one and another one and another one, you're getting better. It's hard to stack games. I'm thrilled that we've played -- got three wins in a row here at home. I love that. If you're going to have a good season, you've got to play well at home. And so we been living with that and really trying to use it as a battle cry that we got to play well here at Lumen. So we're rolling right now and halfway.

Q. Your rookies having big performances today, what can you say about just the infusion of talent the last two years?

PETE CARROLL: It's a little bit of an old topic because we keep hitting it. It's a beautiful topic for us to be on because it shows the continuity of how we work and how we choose the players on the team and all John's side of the world that he owns. To have the obvious success last year, come back and top it off again and figure it out again and here we're going again. I mean, what's going to happen next time is what's really exciting. So it's fantastic for us. You can see rookies all over the place, playing, contributing, and doing things. That is such a boost to us entering the second half of the season. Would this be the second half the season now? Kind of? I mean, it's so screwed up. Used to be kind of easy, but it's not easy anymore.

Q. What did you think of Geno's day overall with two picks; missed couple throws he usually hits.

PETE CARROLL: He's upset. He doesn't like it. I thought he figured out a way to get us started beautifully and we looked great, and then when it came down to it, we had to have it, he took us right down the field and we scored and we won the game. There is some stuff in between. There is a couple passes that looked kind of off. He threw one to Jaxon; Jaxon stopped on the route and screwed it up, and looked like we threw the ball to the other guy. That was a miscue. But he's got room to play better. I love the way he's playing and leading us.

Q. Jamal briefly left the game. Were you just managing his snaps?

PETE CARROLL: Yeah, just managing his snaps. Exactly.

Q. What's the message going into Baltimore next week?

PETE CARROLL: I don't know. I don't really know. They're really good. Did they win again today?

Q. Beat the Cardinals.

PETE CARROLL: Okay, they're really good. That's all I know.

QB Geno Smith

PETE CARROLL: Really big day for us. Fantastic illustration of hanging in and staying in and keeping the belief going and giving ourselves a chance to win a football game. S Jamal Adams

(On the interception) "I got that (Lionel) Messi. I was just coming on a blitz, great call by coach (Clint Hurtt) and Pete (Carroll) and had to make something happen. We needed the ball back and seeing the guard pull I jumped as high as I could and luckily pulled it off, man, right off the head."

(On what it means to make a play like that) "Just grateful. God is good. I want to do whatever I can to help the team win. That's what it's about. I'm not trying to make it about me or whatnot. It's definitely been hard, still a long process; just have to continue to grind with it. I'm just grateful to be here, grateful to be with my teammates and grateful to get a win."

(On how big of a win it is against a team like Cleveland) "That's a great football team over there. Offense, defense, special teams; they're well-coached. We knew going into it they were going to run the football. It's a gritty group, very aggressive, downhill, attack mode. We had a couple of wrinkles in there that we didn't fit right, including myself. We just have to get better in the run game and slow some of that leaky yardage down. For the most part, we figured them out and we shut them down."

LB Jordyn Brooks

(On how big the defense's three takeaways were) "It's big. I think earlier in the week, that's the number we wanted to get. They have a good defense over there. It was going to take three to get the win. Glad we accomplished that."

(On what he saw from Cleveland on the screen plays they ran) "That was the problem, we weren't seeing it. They did a good job running the screens today. They were catching us in some pressures, we were blitzing or catching us when were in some zone coverages. They did a good job on that end. That's one area we have to get better on that."

(On what it feels like to be playing eight months later after tearing his ACL) "It feels good. It feels really good. It's all because God put me in position to do something. Just playing with these guys, I've been having a blast, been having fun. I'm just thankful and appreciative of where we're at right now."

WR Jake Bobo

(On his touchdown run) "It's been a little bit of a tendency to send me in motion when were on the goal line and run up the middle. I'd figure we'd switch it up, see if I can fall forward for two yards; a couple great blocks on the edge, (Will) Dissly was out there. All I had to do was fall forward. It was a great call by Shane (Waldron)."

(On him and Jaxon Smith-Njigba scoring twice in the last two weeks) "We're deep. It starts with DK (Metcalf) and (Tyler) Lockett, Jax (Smith-Njigba) and I'll follow last. We're a deep room, now we have Dee (Eskridge) back. We'll just keep making plays."

WR Jaxon Smith-Njigba

(On how it feels to win) "It feels great. A great win. I thought we answered the call real well, and got the W when it mattered. It was a big win for us, so happy we got the W."

(On whether his touchdown was an RPO play) "It was an RPO, seeing the nickel blitz, I knew I was getting it. Geno spit it to me, and we got in the end zone."

(On how much confidence they had that they would get a touchdown on that last drive) "Big time confidence. We work a lot at being in those situations and for us to go out there with two minutes left, it felt like we've done it before. Credit to the O-line for doing an amazing job. Geno doing an amazing job. Tight ends were rolling, the receivers were rolling. It was a big part of today and we executed real well."

(On how he feels) "I feel great. How are you doing?"

(On having DK Metcalf blocking for him on his touchdown) "It's his touchdown just as much as it's mine. We have to click on all cylinders to be the best and we know that and he preaches that. He not only preaches that, he goes out there and does it. It's great to see that. I got him, just like he's got me and the rest of the team. Just a great overall drive and win for the offense."

(On fighting through some offensive struggles after the first quarter) "Sometimes it's a game of runs. You're up, you're down. But it's just about bouncing back, getting back to that next possession. That's what we did. I felt like we held our heads high and we just went out there and tried to do the best we could. All the mistakes and all that, we'll look at them tomorrow and try to get them fixed."

(On what goes through his mind when he hears a play call in the huddle, knowing he might score the winning touchdown) "It feels good. You just got to be ready when you're out there, when your number's called and I had the opportunity to make a play and Geno made the right read, and like I said, DK a great block and it was just great execution."

(On whether he knew he was going outside when he caught the touchdown pass) "It was a bubble route, so I'm kind of flaring to the outside. I knew it was a chance that I could hit the outside."

(On what it was like on the sidelines when the ball bounced off of Adams' helmet for an interception) "It felt amazing, just knowing that we sealed the win. That's when we sealed the win, right? The interception? Oh, that was a big relief. Our defense had been stepping up, doing a great job. They just showed on that drive. J-Love, a leader on the defense, coming up. It's big for us. Happy to get it done."

(On whether there is pressure to score after an interception like that) "Oh, it's an opportunity. We're rolling. We're trying to win the game. Two minutes, let's go. Down three, let's do it, let's go score, put some points on the ball, and that's what we did today."

S Quandre Diggs

(On what he thinks about the ability for the defense to make plays) "At the end of the day we're 5-2 with 10 games left. We're enjoying the moment. It was good though because at the end of the day after we lost the Rams game the whole world was bothered by it, so for us to come out and rebound, play like we have and continue to get better, it's dope."

(On how it's been playing with Jamal Adams) "You guys know our relationship, the brotherhood, anytime I can look to the left or the right and I see him

space. At the end of the day, I know what he's going to bring, and I know what I'm going to bring and we're going to have fun with it. For him to come back and make those plays, play dang near every down, and coming off what he's coming off of, it's been tremendous. I'm excited for him, and I'll let him rest up all week and let him play on Sundays, that would be my deal. I'm just excited to have him out there."

(On if Jamal Adams is all the way back) "That's for him to answer, I don't speak on anybody's medical. But I know I'm excited for him to be out there so let's go."

CB Tre Brown

(On if he got a great look at the interception from Julian Love) "Yeah, shoutout to Mal (Jamal Adams), shoutout to J Love (Julian Love) for coming down with it. It hit off of Mal's head, that was clutch, we needed that."

(On the mentality of the defense going through sudden-change situations) "Next play, we know what we signed up for. We're out there to play defense. When we step out on that field, we got that next play mentality to go make a play and that's what we did."

(On what he was thinking when he saw the offense go on the field for the last drive) "I felt the energy. I knew they we're going to make those plays and we we're going to have to go out there and finish it off."

(On what he thought about the throwback helmets) "I love those helmets. We need to wear those every week or every other week. We can't put them up, but it was amazing."

S Julian Love

(On how long it felt that the ball was in the air on his interception) "Oh my gosh. That was in the air for forever. I was wondering, initially, how that got up there. That usually is not the rebound, off of a hand. And of course, Jamal is jumping off his head, boo, it's in the air, and I came down with it."

(On whether he has seen a replay) "Yeah. It's amazing. He was like prime Renaldo right there. That play is all a credit to 'Mal. The way he plays, the passion, the energy, the physicality. If he's not pressuring the way he is, that play never happens, and who knows what happens at the end of the game. That's Jamal Adams."

(On whether he has previously had a soccer header interception) "I've had some good ones, not as high as that one, though. That one got up a little bit."

(On whether he saw it go off Adams' head) "No, not at all. I'm backside of the play. You see a ball in the air, and you dream of moments like that, just to get you one. Yeah, first pick as a Seahawk. Thank you, Jamal Adams."

(On getting three turnovers today) "That's big. That's the standard that coach sets. We had two early and that's more opportunities out there. We're striving. We're trying to get that turnover margin where we want it. That's just going week in and week out with that mindset."

(On playing with Adams and Diggs, and how that's progressing) "I think it's a really good package when we're all out there at the same time. Jamal does certain things well. Q does certain things well. I just feel like the glue. I just feed off those guys, their energy, their intensity. Their passion for the game. They make my job way easier. Just being next to them, I feel like the standard is so high. I'm just trying to live up to how they play and how they are known in this league. It's done nothing but elevate my game."

(On being in first place after the first game) "It's all a mindset. Who we were going into that week 1 is not who we are now. We understand what it takes to win in this league. That's the goal that we set, to win the NFC West, forever, I'm sure. That was said to me early when I signed. It's week whatever it is, eight, seven, something, it's a long season. But, yeah, it's good to be sitting on top right now, but we have a lot of division games, and a lot of games left."

(On what he's seeing from the D-line) "Those guys are balling. The best coverage is rush. We lost an extremely talented leader on this team, with Uchenna, and the guys are just rebounding and feeding off of that. Guys stepping up. Obviously, we signed Frank. The guys up front have been eating. They play with some fire. So, yeah, it makes the secondary's job easy."

(On what allowed Cleveland to have success with the screen pass) "Game plan wise, going into this game, we knew they were an effective screen team, that they were effective at the run game. They have one of the best O-lines in football right now. They have some talented skill players. We knew what was going to happen, but they were able to execute. They had some good new looks out there. And that's a good football team. That's going to happen. They made plays, we made plays. But, yeah, we got to shore that up. That's just a building block. It's great to get a win after them executing so many screens the way they did. Now we have to learn and just progress."

(On whether he was surprised on the third down play on his interception) "A little bit, especially that pass concept. Their identity is kind of ground and pound football, that quick game. I think it was slant, then flat, then slant flat to the boundary as well. Unusual, and it definitely was a change up. So that's what they expected. Thankfully, Jamal Adams was coming head first to get the ball."

"I appreciate you guys."

WR Tyler Lockett

(On his speech to the offense before that last series of plays) "You know, when we brought everybody up, the biggest thing was telling everybody to breathe, telling everybody to relax because I think we had about three three-and-outs in a row. Sometimes you can find yourself pressing, trying to be able to get out of the element mentally because it's just like, 'Bro, what's going on? Like, we got to figure this out.' So, it's just making sure we reel everybody back. We were able to go out there, execute, and Jax (Jaxon Smith-Njigba) scored us the winning touchdown."

(On what the team's reaction was to his speech) "They were looking at me, but I was trying to make sure I didn't sound stupid. I got to remember what I'm trying to talk about. It seemed like everybody was listening; they understood. It wasn't like one of those moments, like I said, we were pressing, or we were out of it. The defense did a great job just keeping us in the game. Even though the team was able to do great with their third downs on the other side, the defense allowed it to be field goals and not touchdowns. That keeps us into the game."

(On how big the first play is) "I think the first play is pretty big because it gets you in rhythm, it makes you be like, 'Okay, now we are in it, let's go.' Rather than, we got to try to find a play that works to be able to get us started. I mean, I think anybody would like second and short or second and five rather than second and ten."

LB Boye Mafe

(On what's clicking for him) "Honestly, just figuring out what my game is right now, understanding that every situation, every position you go against tackles, they are all different. Just preparing myself and really knowing that in the league now, what's going to happen, and the biggest thing is understanding what I have done is one thing, but I have to prepare to continue and try to maintain this stride that I have right now."

(On if he feels everyone has to step up with Uchenna Nwosu out) "We definitely do, he was a big part of our defense. There's a reason that he was that guy for us and it's not even just how he

played, it's also the mentality he had and the mental aspect of the game. Being out there with him, he's one of those people that likes to give you tips and tendencies. Just being out there with him was easy and now we just have to find a way to step up as a whole group and figure out how we're going to adjust our roles and make sure we can be those players."

(On what he thinks is clicking for him right now and what's different from last year) "As of last year it was one thing, I was a rookie coming in understanding the game and then all of a sudden, you're going into your second year, you have a plan. You have a whole offseason, now I know what to expect and now I know how much time I have to prepare. Honestly going from last season to this season I took that time to really reflect on my game, reflect on what I need to, how to get comfortable out there, and I think that's the biggest thing that I've noticed. But definitely the biggest thing for me is the comfortability for when I'm on the field and all of a sudden you hit an inside move, and then, boo, you're there at the quarterback."

CB Devon Witherspoon

(On morale following today's game) "It's a tough win. It was hard to win this week, especially against a team like that. They have a great defense. They go out there and ball every game. To win this game, we were trying to get in our groove."

(On being first place in the NFC West) "It means nothing. You can be on top one day and on the bottom the next day. For us, it's a good accolade but we need to keep continuing to work."

CB Riq Woolen

(On how it felt to get his first interception of the season) "Honestly, it felt good man. Sometimes you barely get opportunities, and this year I feel like I've barely been getting opportunities. Sometimes they throw my way once or twice a game. Honestly, it felt good to get an interception, it was a great call. Shoot - tips and overthrows, got to get those."

(On if he was worried they would overturn it) "No, I knew I caught the ball, and I knew I was down on the ground. I had elbows, knees, all that on the ground. So, I knew I was down, it's just the fact of they have to do the review and be all dramatic."

(On how he felt about the hands to the face call against him) "No, because when you're out there playing physical, and you're out there being yourself and playing your game, certain stuff like that happens. I thought it was a clean play, but they see different things from up top, and whatever the refs see, but that's a play I would like to have back, at the same time, we still went and got an interception with J. Love (Julian Love), so it was an even greater moment."

WR DK Metcalf

(On his block that helped Jaxon Smith-Njigba score the go-ahead touchdown) "It's not even satisfying because I don't look for any gratification or anything from anybody else outside of the building. My teammates were happy and the coaches were happy with how I blocked and I played and that's all that matters."

(On if there was any doubt he would make that block) "I pride myself in blocking. I take it just as serious as a route that I run, especially if it was one of my brothers back there catching the ball. It was easy for me to execute."

(On Jake Bobo and Jaxon Smith-Njigba scoring again) "Great players, great people along with them being great players. They just have a lively attitude about them every day in meetings or in practice. They're just fun people to be around and to see them out there balling and scoring is like my little brother out there scoring. Just happy to see them execute and living out their dream."

TE Noah Fant

(On his confidence in late-game situations) "I have ultimate confidence. I think all of us know that we want better in previous drives. Once we get out there, all of that is on the backburner and we have to make the drive we're in now. I think everybody had full belief that we were going to go down and do what we did. That was a good feeling. We weren't thinking about a field goal, we wanted to win the game. It was super cool to see that come to life."

(On how Jaxon Smith-Njigba played) "I was super happy for Jaxon (Smith-Njigba). He is a great kid, he can be something very special. We notice that, but hopefully he can get some more opportunities as we keep going."

(On what the offense needs moving forward) "I think the biggest thing is staying on top of our assignments, our techniques, all of those things. We started off fast and hit this lull throughout the middle of the game. I think that's the biggest thing; locking back in, doing those assignments, and making sure we are specific with our technique to get our jobs done."
