Head Coach Mike Macdonald
I don't really know what to say. I'm incredibly proud of our team. I'm happy for the 12s, for our city. What an atmosphere. Just to be able to take it in after and understand what our team has been able to do up to this point and how they've done it, we're just blessed. Just really blessed that we got a heck of a group and a great organization and owner and the best fans. So it's humbling, too, and just pretty awesome. I don't know. I'm kind of speechless. Just really proud of our guys. It was a team win. We didn't play our best game on defense, but we made enough plays to win. Got to give them a lot of credit. They had a great game plan; did some things we weren't ready for. We had to adjust again. Par for the courses for their offense. It's a team win. Special teams had to pick it up. The drive at the end on offense was just tremendous. I thought Klint (Kubiak) called a great play and then you can't talk about the game without talking about our quarterback. He just shut a lot of people up tonight, so really happy for him.
What do you think (got you to this point), and what it took?
I don't know if anybody could hear me afterward, but the power the of '12 As One' is real. Just synergy, people buying in and doing it together. We don't have a bunch of superstars and all that. Just a really good football team that is tough and connected and didn't blink and played the whole game.
You alluded to it there, but there was a narrative after earlier this season about whether or not Sam is a big game quarterback. What do you think he showed today?
I mean, 300-something yards, three touchdowns, no picks. Every time they went and scored he came back, made some big time throws on third down, two-minute drive, four-minute drive. Guy barely practiced all week. Just really happy for him. He deserves it. Just been a rock for us the whole year, so just really happy for him.
(On the way the defense held up on the drive after they got to the six there and the two plays Devon (Witherspoon) made in the endâŠ)
Oh, my God. That's Devon Witherspoon. That's him. We didn't execute that play well on the fourth down, but he just covered his guy forever and just refused to let his guy catch the ball. That's who he is. That's who he is every day. So incredibly proud of him.
Five games against the Rams in two years. Total point advantage you, three, in all five games. What is it about McVay's teams that seem to bring out the best?
They're great team, and he's as good as it gets, him and his staff game planning-wise. They got great players. You just tip your hat to them. I know you're not supposed to as a division rival, but we respect those guys. They're a great offense and they're great coaches. Heck of a matchup. It's probably going to be like this for a long time.
That final four minute drive, (Cooper) Kupp, the one that K9 gets and then big throw to Jax (Jaxon Smith-Njigba), what can you say about the whole drive?
Awesome. We popped a couple runs and then stayed aggressive with some of the passes. Sam (Darnold) made it happen. It was awesome.
When you tell a story to Jack (Macdonald) one day, how do you think you'll start it?
I don't know. Probably won't say anything. Just kind of show him. Let him experience it, you know? That's a great question. I don't know. I hope he sees what we did with our team and how we played and what type of character this team has. That's what I hope he takes from the whole thing.
(On the character, the resiliency and the next-play mentality of this teamâŠ)
Yeah. We needed it. They had us on the ropes straight up. Sometimes it was defense making the play. A lot of times it was offense coming in and making the play, special teams. That's what we believe. We believe that our team is our edge, how we play together.
Had the chance to put them away and got the penalty. (Regarding 15 yard penalty.) Really could've been a dark day if they won the game. What did you see there and is there lessons from that?
Look, Riq (Woolen) has done a tremendous job for us. Yeah, you're frustrated in the moment about what's happening, but he just made an emotional decision and we got to pick him up. That's not the time to point (the finger), get all upset. You've got to go play the next play and score and go rebound back and go back. Riq came back and played well the rest of the game. So I mean, it literally is like '12 As One'. Just keep picking each other up.
Your thoughts on when to blitz or not, there was a third down there, maybe a third and 12. You got 'em. I don't know how much you did, but what was your sort of calculus there in when to send extra guys in? Looked like they had some protection.
Well, we weren't covering very well so trying to find some solutions in the back end, and so there is a trade-off when you do, and the timing of how you do it. They had a great game plan. They did some things on second down they hadn't done all season and we had to come up with some new stuff. Frankly they were really hurting us on second downs. We had to adjust.
So much happened in the second half. Might be easy to forget the first half. That sequence where they get the ball and they're trying to drive and Nick (Emmanwori) breaks up a couple passes, gets the ball back...
Yeah, I thought Nick (emmanwori) played a great game. A lot of plays on the ball. We're asking him to do a lot of stuff, playing near the line of scrimmage, playing both DB spots. That was awesome. And then because I think we had the drive earlier when we really didn't do anything and defense picked it up with the three and out, which I don't think we've done that, maybe except for the first drive. And then Sam (Darnold) made the huge play to Jax (Smith-Njigba) and held on to it after the big hit and made a heck of a play to score. I think it was a seven-cut to Jaxon for the touchdown. Stayed in there and made a heck of a throw. Tell you what, I'm not a quarterback expert, but that's some high powered quarterbacking going on in that game by No. 14 (Darnold) for sure.
The defensive line has been an issue for this team for so many years. That game opened up the run game and protected Sam well. What did you see from that group, Charles (Cross) especially?
Yeah, guys played a great game. Charles (Cross) is banged up. Played through it. Yeah, incredible. Team effort. You talk about George Holani not playing for however many weeks, coming in and practicing for one week and getting ready to play and making big time plays for us. Cam Akers coming in and playing. Just really awesome.
Kenneth Walker III stepping up; 111 yards and a touchdown. What can you say about him?
Just I'm happy for him. Just he just worked. Now he's had an opportunity to really carry the load and he's doing great job. We're going to need him for one more game.
You talked so much about complementary football. Seemed today in the pass game you had complementary football going on. Big plays downfield, getting it after the catch, chunks, Ken Walker III's catch there on the last drive. How critical was it to be able to have that kind of complementary passing attack today?
I think it's an example of you can't press and try to go hunt or force your way to make plays. What you can do is just keep playing on a play-by-play basis and go through your reads and go through your progressions and take a sack if you need to, throw it when you need to, and just do that over and over again. We got great players. When the ball finds them they're going to make plays for us.
Jaxon (Smith-Njigba) has been so good all season.
I'm not surprised. Just like Sam (Darnold). We need those efforts for us to be productive on offense and happy for Jaxon (Smith-Njigba). Guy is an absolute stud.
Cooper (Kupp), there was a sequence, caught a pass, converted third down, walked downfield then gets the touchdown. The professionalism the guy has, do you marvel at it?
How about that? Coop (Kupp) against his former team, NFC Championship gets a touchdown. Some whispers before the game like how cool would it be if Coop scored a touchdown today, and he did. I mean, we love him. He's the best.
Mike, in the first half Dareke Young, was that an adjustment to settle him in front of the punt returner the second time?
Dareke (Young) has played great football for us all year. I think in that moment he thought he was playing for the end line when really should have been in front of the guy. So just a quick fix, back to your role.
What can you say about Michael Dickson's punting?
Oh, yeah, we needed to flip field position and put the guys on his heels and forced him to make a great catch, and unfortunately for him he dropped it.
Can you help us understand what it took to get Sam (Darnold) ready for this game? You said he hardly practiced this week. What was the week like for him?
Well, coming from the medical folks it was always optimistic, and he kept getting better. But I'm not going to put words in Sam's mouth but just trying to be as smart as possible to get him ready to play. He was confident and to come out the way he played barely practicing, just barely throwing the ball, is really incredible. It' should go down as one of the best performances in playoff history I would imagine. I mean, hard to stack it. I can't imagine anybody playing any better.
You mentioned Sam (Darnold) and the high-powered quarterbacking. The narrative seemed still like is he going to make a mistake? Talked about it all year, but where he is now from where he's come and playing the best game in this situation?
Everyone wants to make a narrative about this guy, but he's been the same guy since he walked in the door. You don't want me writing the stories because I would not write the narratives out there. This guy is the man and his teammates love him and he's competitive as crap and he's tough. He's really talented and he's a winner. That would be the story. So don't let me write the story.
QB Sam Darnold
Great team win. Great team win. We came out, did exactly what we wanted to do on offense. I thought that was a great first touchdown drive, and then kind of hit a lull in the second, third quarter. Got things going a little bit there in between those lulls I guess. But just a total complete team win. Special teams stepping up on the muffed punt; Dareke recovering that was huge for us especially going into the half. And then getting the ball back. You know, our defense just playing lights out. That fourth down they hit, I think it was fourth and four, something like that. Just an incredible stop by our guys. So like I said, complete team win. Very proud of this group.
Sam, that is last drive, you guys had second and six down -- shadow of your goal line and then you guys threw it, had a bootleg. How much confidence does that inspire for the entire offense this that situation where a lot of teams might run, run, run to put the ball in your hands and the receivers hands to go win the game?
We practice these situations all the time. Whenever we do really good things situationally, you guys ask about the situations and it's just because we practice it all the time. We practice it every single day almost. So our coaches are really confident not only in myself, but in our entire offense to just go out there and execute whatever play is called, and they know in those four-minute situations that I'm going to take care of it and keep the clock running if I have to.
Have you ever practiced less for a full week and then played?
That's a great question. I don't know. I don't think so.
Were you concerned at all about the lack of practice time?
Not really. I've actually talked to my teammates about this, but middle of the season, Week 9 or 10 it might have been a bigger problem, but with all the reps that we've accumulated throughout the season and throughout training camp, OTAs, all that stuff, I wasn't really concerned about timing or anything like that on certain routes.
How does it feel playing through the injury for a second straight week?
Yeah, felt good. You know, felt good.
Sam, almost poetic for Cooper Kupp the way that wound up. Is that gratifying for you?
I know Coop doesn't think about it like that, but just for him to just be able to step up on a day-to-day basis for us, not only in games but in practice, in the facility, like he's a true leader for us. I feel like I say that all the time when I talk about him, but it's true. He's a great leader and someone that's going to continue to do his job every day.
What can you say about just the way Jax played, the one-handed catch, the deep ball over the middle?
I'm not really surprised at this point anymore about some of the stuff that Jax does on a football field. He's a great player, and I can't give enough kudos to do guys around him as well in the skill group, other receivers, 'Shid stepping up, Bobo having a good game. You know, you talk about all the running backs that stepped up, George Holani stepping up for Charbs the way that he did tonight was huge. Obviously Ken doing this thing. Our tight ends, our tight ends do it all. You know, obviously the offensive line as well, they do a good job. But, yeah, just our entire offense has been clicking and we're a tight group. I think you can kind of see that with the way we play.
The way your teammates talk about you and the way your coaches talk about you and stand up for you, how rewarding is it in the biggest game of the season to have a huge performance and sort of validate all that talk that they support you with?
It's great. It's great that I feel that support not with only their words but just with how everyone treats each other in the building. There is a lot of respect that goes around the building. Everyone respects the work we all put into this great game. I'm just happy to be a part of this team, this group and this coaching staff. I'm really happy to be here, happy to be in this position. I'm just going to continue to do the best that I can to put this team in positions to win football games.
Sam, could you reflect on the guy that six years ago against the Patriots, going to see them again in the biggest game of your life. What do you say to that guy back then or what the biggest evolution is over that period of time?
I almost forgot about it, so thanks. No, you're good. I think for me, there was a lot that I didn't know back then, so I'm just going to continue to learn and grow in this great game. There is a lot of stuff that I can get better from today even. I feel like I missed some throws out there that I shouldn't miss. There were some things offensively that I feel like we can do better. So we're always looking to get better. I'm always looking to get better. That's the great part about this game is you win an NFC Championship and you win games throughout the season, but there is always ways that you can look to get better.
Sam, Jake Bobo wasn't active for a lot of these games. Throw a touchdown pass in a big situation. You knew he could catch it, right?
Bobo is the man. He stepped up for us in other ways throughout the season blocking, doing his thing on teams, but he came up big as well last week with that third down conversion. So me personally and I know the coaches and other players as well have a ton of trust in him.
What did you see from him on that play?
They just brought their two pressure where they bring a corner and play cover two behind it. Bobo ran a great route on the corner; ended up being that half player, and I just tried to put it in a position to where he could put himself in between the ball and the defender.
Sam, the first quarterback from your draft class that includes Josh Allen, Lamar Jackson, Baker Mayfield, you're the first one to make it to a Super Bowl.
I actually made it in '23 as well when I was in San Francisco. No, I'm just messing with you. It's unbelievable, man. Just obviously those are great players, but just it's more so the team just the heart work we put in throughout this season. OTAs, training camp. I talk about it a lot and I know every team works really hard in that offseason when we're just working together, but to be able to go against that defense every single day, you know, that got us better as an offense. I know they could say the same thing about us. So, yeah, we take it day by day and that's the beauty about this team and these guys in this locker room, this coaching staff, is we're going celebrate tonight. We're going to celebrate tomorrow in the meeting and move on and everyone is going to look to see how they can get better for this game coming up in a couple weeks.
WR Jaxon Smith-Njigba
Opening
Great game, great game. Feel great. I want to give all glory to God. Win or lose, draw. I wouldn't be here without him, without the sacrifices that everyone makes. Family, friends, teammates, coaches. Super honored to be a Seahawk and to give everything on the field for my brothers
On what this feels like
It's a dream come true, honestly. Just all the work that we've put in in the offseason, in the summer, throughout this season. All the people, the doubters, the naysayers. It feels awesome to have a group, to have a collective that, like I said, plays for the guy next to him. I'm honored to be a part of that.
On Sam Darnold
Just a true leader, a true competitor. Leader. He led us today. Can't say enough about Sam, man. It's been a great first year, we have one more to go. For him to overcome (what he) had to overcome, I'm rolling with Sam all day. We believe in him. This building believes in him, this city believes in him. It's awesome to run out on the field with him.
On the play near the end of the first half where he got hit over the middle
Post route, Sam threw a great ball, I just had to go get it. Kind of felt the defender coming, so I just wanted to secure the ball.
On the role of Cooper Kupp
I mean I've known that he was going to come in clutch. Just the way he prepares, he's ready for this moment. Play after play, he locked in on the run game and the pass game. For us to have a guy that we can count on like Coop, it just takes this team to another level.
On the one-handed catch
I didn't think I could catch it with two hands, so just whatever it takes for us to get the job done I'm going to do. If I have to catch it with my toe, finger, it doesn't matter, just reach out and catch the ball.
On whether it meant more to Kupp, coming against his former team
Super happy for him. Like I said, we wouldn't be the team we are without Coop. Just what he brings on and off the field. He's a true leader, a true warrior, and it's an honor to line up next to him. How he's elevated my game, I can't thank him enough.
On this team accomplishment
This is better than any individual award or goal that I had in mind. This is the ultimate goal that we've had; get to the Super Bowl, win the Super Bowl. This feeling is something that I can't really explain. I'm just super proud of everyone involved.
On the first Super Bowl he remembers watching
The first Super Bowl I watched was Larry Fitzgerald and the Steelers. That's kind of the one I remember. Like today, I'm ready to put everything on the line, whatever it takes. I'm willing to get it done.
On having a balanced passing game today
I don't think our guys get enough credit for winning games. It's about winning games. If we need the run game, the run game has won us games. The pass game has come up clutch and had done their thing. Like I said, whatever it takes, that's the mentality we have.
On beating the 49ers and Rams to get to the Super Bowl
It's definitely sweeter beating those divisional rivals. It's a little bit extra when you play those guys. We know each other, so it's just the ultimate chess battle, the ultimate war. All credit to those guys. They fought their tails off. I have nothing but respect for those guys over there. Like I said, super proud of our guys and how we came out and got the victory.
On when he knew this team could be special
Honestly, just practice, honestly. Going against these guys in practice and meeting Sam and the way he talks about going through his process and what he likes to do and playmaking ability. I've said it before, we have a special group that can do it. I've said it before the season, and it still holds true.
On the play of Devon Witherspoon
You can count on 'Spoon. You can count on him to be here, to be ready, to be accountable for himself. He's the ultimate leader, an ultimate competitor. It's an honor that we got drafted in the same round, same class. That's my brother for life.
God bless.
S Julian Love
On Sam Darnold and defeating poor expectations
'You probably just got lucky today.' That's what they like to say, right? I have a perspective on Sam because I started my career in New York. He got a bad rap early, and I think that's not fitting for who he is as a person or as a player. He shows it when he works hard. He's humble about it. He takes no shortcuts in the process. Everyone in the building loves him. He's just a good guy. He's just a guy, a guy you can enjoy playing golf with, and a guy that you can take pride in leading you on the field. All of that criticism is not warranted. He showed up when it mattered, and he won us a game today.
On the unity of the team
We're a young team, but we have a lot of different perspectives and experience from all sorts of places. We have DLaw (DeMarcus Lawrence), we have Sam (Darnold), myself, Leo (Leonard Williams), EJ (Ernest Jones IV) has been around a lot, and Coop (Cooper Kupp). You have that, but then you have homegrown guys that we were able to get in the draft. It just created a very cool environment where everyone's feeding off each other. Everyone has a say in the room, and that's not just talk, it's real. If somebody sees something, they say something. It's all meant with love. We are very unserious as a unit. We are constantly messing around. But when it's time to dial it in, we do. I'll put it to this, I enjoy going to work every day, every morning, and I leave relatively happy. So that's good.
On the celebration in the locker room after the win
I love a good cigar after a game, and it's good to get in this moment. I swear this is our vibe on a Wednesday. before and after practice. Less substances, like the cigars, but we enjoy being around each other. It's very real. There's very little ego. Everyone has a chip on their shoulder, but it's put to a good purpose. That's why we created the whole MOB thing. It's our mission over any BS.
On picking up energy after the taunting penalty
That's my role. I'm pretty much the glue guy on defense. I got decent emotional intelligence. I knew in that moment, he understood what we did. It was a poor decision. Okay, whatever. We need him. He's going to win the game for us. It's the 4th quarter, 15 minutes left to play. So, I knew people were going to try to hold him accountable in an aggressive way. We were going to get nothing out of it. I said 'don't do that again, obviously. But I love you, and you're gonna make plays for us.' That's how we approach what's next.
LB Ernest Jonest IV
On how it feels
I can't describe it, man. This is everything that we prayed for, everything that we worked for. To see those guys celebrating in that locker room, because we won the West, we won the division, now we're NFC champions, there's nothing better. I'm excited, ready for this opportunity.
On how satisfying it is to see Sam Darnold get to this point
Very. Very. Everything that I said, I stood on it. Sam, what did he have, like three hundred some yards? Hooping. Sam's a baller, like I said, man. You can doubt Sam if you want to, but Sam's going to show up every time. That's what we know, and that's why I stood on that night for him and I'll do it all over again.
On getting the stops at the end when they were needed
Like I said, not even a bend-not-break mentality, it's more like protect the blade of grass. We've said it all year, no matter if they take a 60-yard pass and take it down to the one, we feel like we can stop them. So, regardless of what's going on in the game, it's snap by the snap. That's what I kept telling the guys. Keep going. Push.
On the message to his teammates about being in a Super Bowl
I step away a little bit from this part because honestly my Super Bowl experience was in L.A, we didn't go anywhere. I think here we'll have to go like a week in advance, so I'm a little new to this myself. We didn't have much media, I think it was COVID time, so I'm new to it myself.
On whether he appreciates this more than he did as a rookie
100 percent. One thousand percent. I spoke to the group maybe a couple of weeks ago. I was really speaking to Nick, because me personally, I'm out there with A.D. [Aaron Donald], a bunch of guys who were legends, and I just didn't want to mess it up, and I was playing timid, playing scared. I told Nick to be the reason why we go win, and Nick made some helluva plays tonight. To do it, to go through that team, and to do what we did today, I'm just thankful.
On the importance of the culture
It happened today because there were moments in that game where honestly I don't think they were doing anything special, it was just us. Then, you feel that in the game, where it's us, where we're making the mistakes and you start getting a little aggravated, or getting upset with one another, but I think what we've built made us all come back down to ground zero and go out there and get those stops when needed.
On beating his former team
For sure. There's a lot that I would like to say, but God's granted us this humbly, granted us this win so humbly. I've moved past, I'm just glad that my group, my team, that we're going to the Super Bowl.
On what he saw in Darnold to so publicly defend him in Week 11
The next day, Sam back in there early, Sam was getting everything that needed to be fixed from that week before. But Sam impressed me because he can just move forward. Like he was saying earlier in the week, he's going to let it rip. That's what he's going to do. Sam trusts his arm, he trusts his ability, and we trust Sam. So all you gotta do is give Sam that encouragement or whatever the case may be; let him know that we got his back and he's able to lead us to a Super Bowl.
On being resilient after the touchdown drive following the penalty on Woolen
I started, honestly, in that moment laughing because I was like, bro, we worked on these death zone moments. When our backs are against the wall, man, we've worked on these moments. So, I knew that we were going to rise to the occasion, just a matter of who was going to do it.
On how he managed the sidelines following that penalty
Honestly, it wasn't much. Guys were a little mad for like 2,3, 20, 30 seconds and then once I start getting a little mad we all kind of calm down a little bit. It was able to just ease everything through.
On Cooper Kupp
I'm most happy for Coop. I've been in that position, I've been there, I've left that place. I know everything he went through. I know this feels good for him and I'm happy we were able to do it.
On how beating the number one offense in the NFC Championship prepares them for the Super Bowl
I think it gives us confidence, one knowing that we can beat them, but two it was good those plays happen so that when we prepare for the Patriots we kind of know what we gotta stop, what we need to get better on, so honestly for me the plays that they made, they were also just learning moments for us.
"Thank y'all."
LB Boye Mafe
On helping the players who have never made the Super Bowl
It means a lot. It shows you how much of a team we are. It's not about individuality. This team is about connectivity. It doesn't matter what's out there. We have our standard to who we are, and we go out there and show it everyday.
On how the defense lifted each other up late in the game
It's trust. We trust each other. We trust everybody on our side of the ball that no matter what happens, no matter what plays, we've always got each other's backs.
On what it means to go to the Super Bowl
It feels amazing, but there's one more game to go.
RB Kenneth Walker lll
On how it feels to know his team has his back
It feels good. It was unfortunate for Zach (Charbonnet), but he knows we got his back and I know he got my back as well. It feels good to know my teammates support me in that way to see me like that.
On the whole offense contributing
We're hard to stop when everybody's clicking. The whole line doing their job, the receivers doing their job, running backs and tight ends. We're hard to stop because we have so many weapons.
On Sam Darnold's leadership
He's been great the whole season. We trust him. He's a great leader and he's a great person off the field. That's big, and you need that to make it this far in the season.
DT Leonard Williams
On what developed the trust in Sam Darnold for the team
From the moment he got here, the way he is, his professionalism and leadership, his poise, the way he works on his craft every day. We're joking around on the plane and stuff like that when we have long flights and he's studying. It goes to show the type of guy he is; the type of professional he is."
On winning in all three phases
It was big time. Every team talks about wanting to be good all-around. Special teams came up big - we scored off of that. Offense picked us up as well.
S Nick Emmanwori
On what he's feeling in this moment
It's a surreal moment. All the work we put in, it's a great feeling honestly. I'm kind of speechless; I've got to get all my words together.
On what the team culture means to him
This is the best team I've ever been on. I know I'm just a rookie but, in all my years playing football from high school to college, best chemistry, best players, best coaches. It's a little bittersweet, but I'm super excited about going to the Super Bowl and having the chance to win it. This is a team I'll remember forever. Every day was great, every day coming into work was great, never a boring moment at all.
On the atmosphere tonight
It's the best feeling in the world; we've got the best fans in the world. It's a great environment every time we step on the field. I was thinking this is going to be our last time playing at home before we go to the Super Bowl when I woke up this morning. We've just got the best fan base in the world, and they show up every time and they get loud, there's nothing more we could ask for.
On overcoming adversity during the game
We knew what type of game this was going to be. A bad football team would have folded right there but we're a good football team so we put that past us. We put that past us and went on to the next play knowing we were going to have to finish the game like we did in that last fourth down, fourth quarter drive.
WR Jake Bobo
On everyone knowing what the Seahawks are capable of now
I don't know, I really don't know. It starts with our leadership. [Sam Darnold], Ernest [Jones IV], all those guys on defense. It's a testament to Mike [Macdonald] for setting the culture. It's a fun group and it's really fun to do this with this group.
On his touchdown and what was going through his head
I hoped he [Sam Darnold] throws it. It was a great job by [Sam]. That's the coverage we wanted and if Jaxon [Smith-Njigba] wasn't there, he was going to come to me. He took a big hit for me so I owe him a couple of beers for that.
On the atmosphere
There's no way to describe this. My ears are going to be ringing for two days. We needed them, we needed the 12s to win this one.
On Sam Darnold's growth this year and setting records on the way to the Super Bowl
It doesn't say anything that we didn't already know about him. He's the man. Obviously, you see the arm talent out here every Sunday. But his leadership is what makes him special. Everybody in this locker room wants to play for him and it takes a special dude to be able to pull that off and then do what he does on the field. I can't say enough about him. Hopefully he doesn't see me saying this because I'll get [stuff] for it, but he's a great dude.
On Sam Darnold in this game
He's the best in the world. It didn't surprise anybody, I'll tell you that. Just the way he came out and got it done for us. Obviously, he's got one more in him. I think this is going to be fun to watch him enjoy this one especially.
G Grey Zabel
On playing alongside Charles Cross
It means the world to me. The guy sitting next to me is the best. To have a brother and a mentor like him who showed me the ropes is amazing. It's cool because there's so many guys in this locker room and I am so happy to go to the Super Bowl with them.
On what Sam Darnold means to this team
He's a warrior, a leader and a great friend. Just having a guy like that running offense. He's one of the best quarterbacks that I've ever had. He's incredible to be around. I'm not surprised from what he did tonight because that's the type of player he is. It's a pleasure blocking for him.
On playing the Patriots in the Super Bowl
We have 12 hours to enjoy this win and then we get back to work. I know the Patriots have an unbelievable team. They have a really good coach. They have a really great staff that is going to have those guys prepared. We're excited to get down to Cali and get after it.
DT Byron Murphy ll
On this being a Seahawks type of win
Definitely. We practice those moments during the week so it's nothing to us. All we have to do is go out there and play how we're supposed to play. Just own the situation into the end zone, in the game at any time, and we're going to come out on top every time.
On if the big moments feel any different
They feel the same. Like Mike (Macdonald) says stay poise, stay firm, and just play the game.
On what it means to get a win for Leonard Williams
It means a lot, that's my big. He welcomed me with open arms as soon as I go here. He's been nothing but a great leader, a big brother, everything. I love that dude to death. I love playing with him, he's a dog. I told him after Week One where we were going, now look at us, we're here.
On how they bounced back after Riq Woolen's penalty
We just told each other you've got to keep going, keep playing. We have Riq's (Woolen) back no matter what. No matter if it's a positive or negative thing, you've just got to keep going.
LB Patrick O'Connell
On how it feels to go to make it to the Super Bowl
I can't even put it into words right now. Looking back on all of the work we put in as a team, and me personally, it's such a blessing to be able to do this. I can't wait.
On the pride of being a part of this special teams unit
That's a great word. I think pride is the ultimate thing when you look at special teams. You're going one man for another, and it's winning your one-on-one battles, taking pride in everything that you're doing. It's so special to be a part of a group like that.
LB Derick Hall
On the final drive on defense
I think that just speaks to what we do every single day. We eat, think, and breathe the death zone. That was a true death zone moment. We knew the game was on the line, we had to go out back. Put the guys out there, they just made plays.
On bouncing back after Riq Woolen's penalty and the Rams' touchdown
I don't see it as a bounce back moment, I just think it brought us closer together. That's what we've been talking about all year; staying close, staying connected.
On how impressed he was by Sam Darnold
Not impressed at all, man. That's Sam (Darnold). That's his process, that's what he's done. People doubted him out week in and week out, even before he got to Seattle. He came in, everyone accepted him, went up to him and told him he's the guy for this team. The sky is the limit. He's gone up to fight some battles that none of us could ever even imagine. We're here doing the dang thing.
S Coby Bryant
On their mindset at the end of the game
We have to finish. We work on these moments. Nobody doubted. We all stayed together and got the job done.
On Devon Witherspoon and his pass breakups late in the game
He's a dog. Everybody knows he's a dog. Nobody lost faith in him. We knew he was going to bounce back and make a play. We believed in him and it was exciting to see.
On why this team bought into Mike Macdonald's message
We only have one goal in mind and obviously the job's not done yet. We still have more work to put in. He set the tone from day one and we're behind him.
On Kenneth Walker III having four touchdowns this postseason and how happy he is for him
Very [happy]. Very. He's a special dude off the field and obviously a great running back. The future is bright for him. We believe in him so much and it's exciting to see.
CB Devon Witherspoon
On Sam Darnold's performance
It means everything. When you see somebody work at it every day, the way we work at it every day, it doesn't surprise you in the game. It's like 'Oh we've seen that play in practice.' I knew they were going to execute on that. Sam controls that offense. We trust him. We believe in him. We stand behind him no matter what. We've seen what the critics have said. Now they have to eat their words.
On the defense's performance in the second half
The moment never got too big for us. We just treated it as another game. I think that's what let us to this W. We didn't let the moment and all the extra stuff factor in. This is what we do. Day by day, one play at a time, we went our there and executed tonight."
On playing in front of the 12s
It's one of a kind. You're talking about the 12s being out there and having your back when we needed them. Even when we let them down, they stayed with us. That just lets you know the culture that we have over here. We built that and shoutout to all the fans. They played a huge part in us winning these games at home. I remember when everybody was saying that we weren't winning at home and that we had to do better. We heard what everybody said, and we had to right by our fans, so shoutout to the 12s.
LT Charles Cross
On how much two weeks will help to prepare for the Super Bowl?
Two weeks is huge. It will just let us rest our bodies so we can be as healthy as possible.
On if the Rams talked as much this game
I didn't hear anything. But I just talk to my guys, my teammates.
On being a leader
I'm grateful. Grateful for the guys, my teammates. I'm grateful for everyone in this organization. Being here has meant so much. It's kind of surreal. I remember being a kid and praying for moments like this. I'm just grateful that God gave me this opportunity.
WR Rashid Shaheed
On what he saw from Dareke Young's fumble recovery
That was a huge momentum swing. For us to recover the ball in that moment of the game was a huge switch up that we needed and Dareke, he works super hard so I'm proud of him and all the work he's put in.
On how it feels to be going to the Super Bowl
We got a win, that's really all that matters, but it means everything to this team, this organization. We're super excited and can't wait.
WR Dareke Young
On what he saw on the fumbled punt
He was looking at us running down there, took his eye off the ball. (Michael) Dickson was kicking great punts all game, and it's like he (Xavier Smith) wasn't comfortable catching them. I knew when I missed the first one, I knew that I would have an opportunity to make a play and I did.
On the importance of getting take aways
I know this was a very important game, and turnovers matter. I was upset that I couldn't get the first one, but I was glad that I could get the second one.
On what going to the Super Bowl means to the team
It means everything. I've been on teams that didn't make the playoffs. I've been on teams that won 10-games and didn't make the playoffs. A first round exit. For us to put everything together and win 16 games and make it to the Super Bowl feels great.
T Abe Lucas
On this team being his home team and what it means
It's amazing. I'm so happy to be a part of this piece of history and to do it on the team that I grew up watching is special.
