Seahawks WR Jaxon Smith-Njigba Eclipses 1,000 Yards, QB Sam Darnold Has Good First Half

Seattle receiver Jaxon Smith-Njigba reaches another milestone this season, surpassing 1,000 receiving yards.

In what has been an already outstanding season for Seahawks receiver Jaxon Smith-Njigba, it just keeps getting better as he eclipsed 1,000 receiving yards on the season and became the third player in NFL history to have at least 75 receiving yards in the first nine games of the season, joining Michael Irvin (1995) and Antonio Brown (2014). This would mark his second-consecutive season of 1,000 receiving yards, having notched that mark last season after 15 games.

And in true Smith-Njigba fashion, he is just focused on getting ready to prepare for the game against the Rams next week.

"I feel great; I'm blessed, man," he said. "I'm thankful I'm healthy and can continue this thing going forward next week, like I said, it's a long season, and we have a lot more games and ways to go. Just focused, locked in, and ready to prepare for L.A. (Rams)"

Smith-Njigba finished Sunday's game with one touchdown and 93 yards on five receptions. His touchdown came on a 43-yard connection with quarterback Sam Darnold on Seattle's first drive of the game.

"What you love about Sam is he pulls the trigger," head coach Mike Macdonald said after the game. "He's aggressive but like smart with how he does it. He ripped it and Jaxon went and got it. Just shows what he can do. Body control, ball skills, how he tracks it all that was on display."

What made the touchdown even more impressive was the way Darnold was able to throw to his left, across his body, without even having his feet set.

"Beautiful throw," Smith-Njigba said. "Great throw. Put it right on the money. Sam's (Darnold) been playing great; gave me a chance on it. So, I appreciate it."

He added, "I don't know how he does it, honestly, but he's a competitor and he's going to shoot for the moon. Guys like me, (the) receivers, we appreciate that, giving me a chance to make a play on a ball. He's a special player, and it's like the Sam Darnold Show out there."

And as great as Smith-Njigba continues to play each game, it doesn't surprise Darnold anymore what Smith-Njigba is doing.

"I think, again, it's a credit to the work he's put in, not only this offseason, but throughout his entire career and his whole life, you know, working to get to this point. Knowing him, I know that he's just going to continue to put in that work and stay hungry that way."

Along with Smith-Njigba's good game, before the Seahawks turned to essentially just running the ball, Darnold had another good first half, going 9-of-10 and throwing for 167 yards and the one touchdown to Smith-Njigba.

On Darnold, Cooper Kupp said, "Some of the stuff, movement wise; the first throw he made, moving to his left to Jaxon, for the score, that's an unbelievable throw, where he put that one. His ability to do that, and he's been doing that for his whole career. Those kinds of throws, are something that you can see all the way back when he was in New York. Very impressive, and that's part of his game. That's part of what he does. Definitely not surprised by it."
