The Seahawks rolled to another impressive victory on Sunday, beating the Cardinals 44-22 to improve to 7-2 on the season, but they had to play the game without one of their veteran leaders, defensive tackle Jarran Reed.

Reed was placed on injured reserve on Saturday after initially not having a game status designation on Friday, and following Sunday's game, Seahawks coach Mike Macdonald provided some clarity on the situation.

Reed, it turns out, had surgery on a wrist injury following Seattle's Week 7 win over the Texans, then after the bye week was able to make it back for last week's win over the Washington Commanders. Reed went through the practice week as a full participant and was expecting to play in this game as well, but further imaging of his hand late in the week revealed a setback that will require another surgery.

"So J-Reed, the game going into the bye, what was that Houston, at the end of that game he hurt his wrist, so he had an operation during the bye," Macdonald said. "Look, this just tells you how tough this guy is. He's like an all-time physically tough player, mentally, all of the above. Comes back in two weeks and plays after basically breaking something in his hand or wrist. We thought it was good to go. We thought it was ready, but we had a setback in the game. It just tells you how tough he is. He was thinking throughout the week, 'Shoot, my hand is sore.' So we got it re-imaged and turns out he has to have another operation, so it's a setback for him. Your heart goes out to him. It's some adversity for him. But hopefully this will really give him some to stabilize it and alleviate the pain. First you're concerned about him for the long run, and then when he can come back and he can come back and play great football for us."

Reed will have to miss four games before he is eligible to return, and Macdonald said the plan is for him to play again this season.

As for new injuries coming out of this week's game, starting center Jalen Sundell left the game late in the second quarter with a knee injury. Sundell was able to walk off the field under his own power and Macdonald said the second-year lineman was in good spirits. Sundell will undergo further testing to determine the severity of the injury, but Macdonald said it isn't believed to be season-ending.

"It's his knee, not sure on the severity," Macdonald said. "Looked like he was in good spirits. You know how it goes. We'll see. We'll get it imaged and move on from there… I don't think it's season-ending."

Rookie safety Nick Emmanwori briefly left the game with an apparent wrist injury, but was quickly able to return. Receiver Jaxon Smith-Njigba was removed from the game by officials to be evaluated for a concussion after a hit to the helmet that drew a flag, but he was cleared and was able to return to the game.
