The Seahawks bolstered their cornerback depth ahead of Thursday's session of organized team activities, signing Benjie Franklin and Montrae Braswell.

Running back Chris Smith was waived and nose tackle LaTrell Bumphus was waived/injured to make room on the 90-man roster. Smith, who went undrafted out of Louisiana-Lafayette this spring, signed with Seattle last month prior to rookie minicamp, while Bumphus, an undrafted rookie out of Tennessee, signed last week prior to the start of OTAs.

Braswell, an FCS All-American at Missouri State, was a standout cornerback and kick returner for the Bears. In 29 career games he recorded six interceptions, 25 passes defensed, two forced fumbles and 125 tackles, while as a returner he averaged 30.0 yards per return in three seasons, including touchdowns of 100, 96 and 98 yards. Braswell initially signed with Kansas City following the draft.

Franklin, who initially signed with Jacksonville last year as an undrafted free agent out of Tarleton State, spent part of last season on Green Bay's practice squad, then signed a future contract with the Packers in January before being waived last month.

Seahawks players participated in their fourth OTA of the 2023 offseason on May 30 at the Virginia Mason Athletic Center in Renton, Wash.
