With the status of left tackle Duane Brown still uncertain due to a knee injury, the Seahawks added depth to their line, promoting tackle Chad Wheeler off the practice squad.

Wheeler takes the place of linebacker Mychal Kendricks, who was placed on injured reserve, the result of a torn ACL suffered in Seattle's final regular season game.

Wheeler, who went undrafted out of USC in 2017, signed with the New York Giants as an undrafted rookie and appeared in 11 games, starting five while working with current Seahawks offensive coach Mike Solari. Last season Wheeler started 14 games at right tackle then was waived/injured prior to the start of the 2019 season. Wheeler was later waived from New York's injured reserve list with an injury settlement, then signed to Seattle's practice squad on October 15.

The Seahawks also made an addition to the practice squad, signing receiver Cody Thompson to fill the spot vacated by Wheeler. Thompson, an undrafted rookie out of Toledo, briefly spent time on Seattle's practice squad earlier this season.
