The Seahawks are expecting to get Doug Baldwin back for this week's game against the San Francisco 49ers after the receiver had to miss last week's game due to a hip injury.
After practicing for the second straight day, Baldwin, who is officially listed as questionable, said he is confident he'll be able to play, as did Seahawks coach Pete Carroll.
"Doug did really well," Carroll said. "He practiced, made it through it today. He did fine. It looks like he's playing."
Baldwin has missed three games this season, two due to a knee injury sustained in Week 1, as well as last week's win over the Vikings, but that doesn't tell the whole story of what he said has been a "really difficult" season. Baldwin missed almost all of training camp and the preseason with a knee injury, only to injure his other knee in the opener. Since then, he has also played through groin, elbow and now hip injuries.
Also listed as questionable are defensive tackle Jarran Reed (oblique) and Bradley McDougald (knee), but Carroll said both should be able to play.
The Seahawks will be without three players due to injury—running back Rashaad Penny (knee), linebacker K.J. Wright (knee) and safety Maurice Alexander (concussion)—and quite likely a fourth in D.J. Fluker, who is doubtful with a hamstring injury.
On Penny, Carroll said, "He came out of the game last week with a sore knee and it didn't respond quickly enough to get back for this week, so we're going to leave him (in Seattle) so he can get treated over the weekend… After about Tuesday or Wednesday we'll know a little bit more. We'll let you know next week."
While Wright will be out again this week, he is making progress in his return from a knee injury, and practiced on a limited basis both Thursday and Friday.
"He did well," Carroll said. "He got reps today, this was the most he's had. We'll check in with him in the morning to see how he recovers and comes back from that. It's really important how he recovers. We're going to leave him home so that he can really work hard on it so next week he can have a chance to practice on Wednesday and we'll just take it one day at a time and see how he goes. He's optimistic about it and we are, but we really won't know until the end of next week where he is."
