Pete Carroll Shares Injury Updates From Preseason Opener

Injury updates from head coach Pete Carroll following the Seahawks' 17-16 win in the preseason opener against the Kansas City Chiefs.

KANSAS CITY -- Prior to the start of the Seahawks' preseason opener against the Chiefs, Seattle general manager John Schneider met with 'Voice of the Seahawks' Steve Raible on the field at Arrowhead Stadium and said, "The biggest thing I want to see is zero injuries."

While that wasn't entirely the case following the Seahawks' thrilling 17-16 win, Seattle head coach Pete Carroll said the team came out in fairly "good shape."

"Stanley Jean-Baptiste hurt his shoulder," Carroll said of the Seahawks' injury situation. "We'll find out what that's all about. And I think [Sealver] Siliga might've aggravated his calf in warmups. We'll see what happened with that. But other than that, we're in good shape."

Outside of Jean-Baptiste and Siliga, there were a handful of Seahawks who didn't suit up Saturday due to lingering injury situations, many of whom should return before Seattle takes on the Minnesota Vikings in its second preseason game next Thursday night at CenturyLink Field, a list that includes receivers Kasen Williams (hamstring) and Kevin Smith (hamstring).

"Those guys, they have a chance to make it by the game," Carroll said. "They have a chance and they're really close. The healing process is done, now we've got to see if we can get enough practice time to warrant playing them on Thursday."

Rookie running backs C.J. Prosise (hamstring) and Zac Brooks (hamstring) have a "good chance of being back" next week too, said Carroll, "He and C.J. will come off the injured thing next week."

On strong safety Kam Chancellor (groin), Carroll added: "I'm not sure what Kam's timing will be, it's a short week so we've got to see how that works. We've got to get him right."

And while he wasn't listed on the 'players not expected to dress' list handed out before Saturday's game, Carroll said defensive end Michael Bennett didn't suit up against the Chiefs because he was battling an illness.

"Michael Bennett got sick last night and this morning and couldn't get over it," said Carroll.
