Tuesday Round-Up: Seahawks' DK Metcalf Nearing Rare Accomplishment In Fourth Season

Seattle wideout DK Metcalf nears another mark that would put him in very elite company.

round up dec 6

Good morning, 12s. Here's a look at what's out there today — Tuesday, December 6 — about your Seattle Seahawks

In the Seahawks Week 13 27-23 win over the Los Angeles Rams, wideout DK Metcalf caught eight passes for 127 yards, including the game-winning touchdown. As the Ole Miss alum continues to aid Seattle's playoff push, he approaches statistical territory that few have crossed in their first four seasons.

On the season, Metcalf has caught 67 passes for 798 yards and five touchdowns. Sunday's eight receptions gave Metcalf his fifth-consecutive game of five or more receptions. Not only does he have a chance of hitting the 1,000-yard mark for the second time in his young career, but Metcalf can join a small group of wideouts to accomplish another feat.

Metcalf needs 102 more yards this season to join Michael Thomas, Randy Moss, A.J. Green and Seahawks Legend Joey Galloway as the only wideouts to ever reach 50 receptions, 900 yards and five touchdowns in each of his first four seasons.

Falling just shy of the 1,000-yard mark in 2021 with 967 yards, Metcalf is off to a strong start with seven games of 50-plus receiving yards in 2022.

Quarterback Geno Smith commented on the gift of having Metcalf on the team and his game-winning touchdown.

"The NFL's full of tight window throws," said Smith. "You're going to have to be able to make those. You [have] great defenders out there. (CB Jalen) Ramsey's a great corner and on that play, DK was lined up on the backside. He came across on the over route. Ramsey was right on his back and there was a safety kind of right in front of him. So, there wasn't a huge window, but when you [have] DK Metcalf, big 6-5 receiver, 220, 230 [pounds], it's going to be hard for those guys to get to the ball before he does. And so I just tried to put it on him, allow him to use his skill set and he made a tremendous catch."

Since 2019, Metcalf's 34 total touchdowns rank the most of any receiver in his class. Last week, ESPN ranked Metcalf No.13 on the Top 25 under 25 list. To say the future is bright would be putting it lightly.
