Virtual Reality

Last season, Jayden Daniels, the NFL's Offensive Rookie of the Year, who helped take the Washington Commanders to the playoffs, used virtual reality consistently and credits the technology with helping him advance as a quarterback, The Athletic reported.

VR can simulate plays and allows a way for players to get reps, going through reads and progressions, rather than just watching film.

The Commanders were the only NFL team to utilize the German company Cognilize's virtual reality technology last season and now with VR growing more teams are picking up on the idea of using VR as a way of training.

Now, the newest Seahawks quarterback, Jalen Milroe will be using VR as part of his training.

"Me and my new head coach [Mike Macdonald], we talked about doing that. So, from now until Game 1, I'm going to utilize [virtual reality]."

Military Family

Coming from a military family taught Milroe, "determination, grit, goals – short term goals, long term goals and understanding that it takes a team. I don't believe in the word "self-made" at all. It takes a team to accomplish anything that you want to accomplish."

His family stood at practice and watched those values they instilled in him come to life, only this time at the next level.

"It was a great feeling," Milroe said on his first day. "When I walked on the field, I really just acknowledged where I was at. My parents made a joke, it's like the first day of class today… It's definitely cool to be an NFL quarterback."

This early in the process, especially for the rookies is getting acclimated, but Milroe has a plan in mind for what he wants to accomplish this season.

"My goal, honestly, is to come in and be the best version of myself. Be better than I was the day before, and earn the trust and respect of everyone in the organization. Everyone from the top down."

And part of becoming better is learning the playbook, something he started the process of last week.

"As soon as I celebrated, the next day, I got the playbook. So, it was a quick turnaround for sure."

Milroe added, "One thing that's for certain the meeting time is not enough for grasping the offense. You got to take extra time aside when you're not around the coaches, whether you're with your teammates, whether you're at home, always time to grow and learn the system. When you know the system, when you have great preparation, you play even better and it wears off on other guys at the core position."

Seahawks rookies participated in their first NFL practice as the team kicked off rookie minicamp on Friday, May 2, 2025 at the Virginia Mason Athletic Center.
