If you asked rookie running back Jadarian Price to describe his first NFL game, he would tell you, "NFL games are unexpected."
Late in the fourth quarter of Wednesday's game, the Seahawks were up by three, as the Patriots were driving down the field looking to score. Before cornerback Josh Jobe's game-winning interception, Price said he was on the sideline going through every scenario possible.
"That whole last drive, I was thinking about, 'OK, what are the overtime rules?'," Price said in a postgame interview. "'What do I have to do?' Like, 2-minute situation. I'm thinking about all this."
In his first game, Price saw a little bit of everything. His starting quarterback leaving with an injury. The defense dominating in the second half. A nail-biting finish. And he also saw a few of his runs pop for big gains.
The very first play of Wednesday's win was a 13-yard rush, giving the rookie "major confidence."
"It's so unpredictable. You don't know what's going to happen. That play we ran, we had so much like confidence in that play and how it was blocked. And I just trusted my coaching and trusted what I did in practice and I got a 13-yard gain. So that gives you major confidence going in the rest of the game."
He added, "As you can see, my first three carries, I didn't get touched until the safety. So that tells a lot about the way our offensive line gets off the ball. And the way they run to the ball, when the ball is in the air or when it's when it's run down the field. I respect our offensive line a lot a lot."
After getting his footing under him in Week 1, this week, Price will have a reunion of sorts when Seattle travels down to Arizona for its Week 2 matchup against the Cardinals and former Notre Dame running back Jeremiyah Love.
"I'm excited to go against Jeremiyah this upcoming weekend," Price said.
The two shared the backfield at Notre Dame, with Price primarily in a backup role, but he says there was always "friendly competition."
"I competed. We competed together," he said. "We said, 'OK, going into this game, who's going to have more touchdowns?' And sometimes we would try to match each other's touchdowns. It just worked out that way, but it was never like a 'I hope you don't do as good' or something like that. It was never that way because if he didn't do well, and all of a sudden, I took the starting job, then what good did that make me? I wanted to prove to myself that I'm just as good or better."
The two will be excited to hopefully shared a jersey swap at the end of the game.
"It'll be special," Price said. "We even talked about it, how we want to, you know, maybe swap jerseys or something if we can. Because it'll be a very special moment and I know that a lot of Notre Dame fans and Notre Dame people look forward to that moment. So, we'll definitely get a picture."
