On Wednesday, ahead of the Seahawks season opener against the New England Patriots, new Seahawks ownership was introduced to the media during a press conference; Vinod Khosla, Chair, Neeru Khosla, Controlling Owner & President of the Seahawks Charitable Foundation, and Neal Khosla, Vice Chair

As president of the Seahawks Charitable Foundation, Neeru will oversee the initiative to "invest in the healthy social, emotional, intellectual, and physical development of youth" throughout the Pacific Northwest while supporting organizations already doing the work in the surrounding areas.

Neeru is no stranger to philanthropic work, especially work tailored for the youth. She is the Co-founder and Executive Director of the CK-12 Foundation, which is a non-profit that, since 2007, has provided free education tools and resources to more than 450 million learners around the world.

"Neeru is very passionate about education," Vinod said on Wednesday. "She's had a nonprofit in education for 20 years, which, by the way, serves 30 to 40 million children worldwide every year. And millions of students are using her AI Tutor every single month. She'll be more focused in the community efforts and some of the foundation efforts for the Seahawks Foundation."

With a master's degree from the Stanford Graduate School of Education, education has always been at the forefront of what Neeru does.

"Most important is to kind of bring the youth into the world they're going to live in. And the best way to do that is through education, help them understand what they can do. A lot of that, what we built, has been -- by the way we offer it, free, so we can educate, we can kind of help them be -- if they truly want to be in the sports, which they should -- we want them to be there with deeper understandings. So that's my commitment to the youth of Seattle, to help them get where they want to get through what we've built with technology and now AI on top of that."

Neeru hopes to implement personalized learning and tutoring for students in Seattle.

"I am here to bring AI Tutoring so that every kid in Seattle can get a tutor, personal tutor," she said. "So it will be free. I'm serious about that, because we found it really helps because we built a vertical for students so that education can be individualized, whether they want to be a Seahawks player in the future or they want to be a musician, they want to be a physician, whatever that might be. I'd like to bring that to Seattle."

Vinod added "One of the unique parts in what AI uniquely enables, if a kid says they're interested in music, every lesson can be taught in the context of musical instruments. If they say they're interested in football or baseball, lessons can change dynamically to their interests. It's pretty amazing to watch how much more engaging it becomes for kids when they do this. There's also, of course, I know probably not a lot of people covering education here, but an amazing opportunity to save a lot of money on paying publishers. 30, 40 million students, like I said, use textbooks composed on the CK-12 website that are custom for that [child]."

While Neeru's background is heavily focused on education, she said that capturing the attention of youth through sports, is a way to connect her passion for education and her new role as controlling owner and president of the Seahawks Charitable Foundation.

"Sports people are great role models for youth," she said. "So I was really happy to see the focus of the [Seahawks] foundation being on the youth. I think we forget that today's youth is being told 'There are going to be no jobs for you, there's going to be no this, no that.' All that negativity. I want to change that dialogue. I want to show youth, and we can use the very names that youth really cherishes. I want to put them in front. I want to tell them, 'Look, you can be that.'… We'll use the Seahawks as models for them to learn from, the hard work, the commitment and perseverance. Those are what I'm looking for."

Along with the chance to help youth, Neeru said sports are a microcosm of how humans interact on a daily basis.

"Games truly taught us to be cohesive, to play as a team together, as well as have competition. And truly the NFL is a great example of that, which keeps us going as human beings. So for me, being a part of a great traditional games value, which teaches all of us, how do you resolve conflict? How do you work together? What strengths do you bring? That's what it's all about. Society works best when you can balance all this… So for me, this is what owning this team means because it's a great example of how you are bringing community and you're bringing a lot of these things so we have a great society here. And hopefully we can duplicate that for the rest of the world."
