Sam Darnold & Seahawks Looking To Be More 'Consistent' Moving Forward

The Seahawks have taken the time to self-scout and evaluate areas they can grow in ahead of Week 7.

When Sam Darnoldand the Seahawks take on the Kansas City Chiefs on Sunday, the offense will be approaching the game with an added emphasis on being consistent. Through six games, the Seahawks offense has shown flashes that it can be a productive offense, but it has also shown that there is room for improvement.

"Had a few days to look at ourselves, look at the Chiefs… There are some things that we have to get better at and we've addressed those things," Darnold said. "The biggest thing for us is consistency. Consistency day in and day out. With these guys (Chiefs) coming in here, great defense, good players, good scheme. Have to prepare well and do everything that we can to all be on the same page and go out there so we can play decisively."

Turnovers, along with offensive drives sputtering out have been an issue for the Seahawks.

"There's a lot of good things that we're doing on tape. Sometimes it doesn't show it in the scoreboard or sometimes how it feels on the field. We're doing a lot of good things," Darnold said. "We need to create a little more consistency in how we're doing it. That's sustaining drives. Having six, seven, eight plays that we're stringing together and not being able to convert a third down on that eighth play. Sustaining drives and continuing to play one play after the other."

Over the long weekend, Seattle's coaches were heads down in film or in meetings.

"We all came in here and put in a lot of hours, just taking the time to look at the film from the first six games and evaluate what we're doing well at every level," offensive coordinator Brian Fleury said. "Just, in general schematically, and even at the position level, and kind of highlight some things that we can lean into and focus on moving forward, then it'll give us a better chance to succeed."

Last season, when Darnold threw four interceptions against the Los Angeles Rams in Week 11, it was Ernest Jones IV who came to his defense. Darnold responded by throwing 13 touchdown passes with only four interceptions over the next 10 games, playoffs included, with the Seahawks winning all 10 on their way to a Super Bowl title.  Jones says this patch that Darnold is going through now is no different than last year.

"We've seen him fix it before. We've seen him go through this in certain ways or not play as well as he would like. So we've seen him battle back from this," he said. "This is nothing new for us. We've been in this situation before. I'm just excited about the guys that he has around us. You got a bunch of fighters, a bunch of guys that we know we're going to fix this thing. We're going to turn it around and when we do, the story will be different."

"Sam's been great," head coach Mike Macdonald said on Monday. "He's been trying to be part of the conversations with us on where we can go."
