8 Injury Updates From Seahawks Head Coach Pete Carroll's Week 12 Wednesday Press Conference

Personnel updates from Seattle head coach Pete Carroll as the Seahawks ready for their Week 12 road game against the San Francisco 49ers.

Injury updates from Seahawks head coach Pete Carroll's Wednesday afternoon meeting with the media as his club prepares for its Week 12 road matchup with the San Francisco 49ers.

1. "It's Going To Be Hard For" Shaquill Griffin To Make It Back

The Seahawks could be without Shaquill Griffin on Sunday against the 49ers. Carroll said the rookie cornerback is going through the concussion protocol after exiting this past Monday night's game early to be evaluated for a concussion. Byron Maxwell, signed last week, took Griffin's place on the outside and played 95 percent of the snaps.

"He's having to work his way through this protocol thing and he's still feeling it a little bit," Carroll said. "It's going to be hard for him to make it back."

2. Duane Brown "Ahead Of Where He Was Last Week"

Duane Brown was listed as questionable heading into Monday night's game with an injury to his ankle, and while he wasn't able to practice during the week leading up to the game, the former Pro Bowl left tackle was active and played 100 percent of the offensive snaps against Atlanta. This week, Carroll said Brown is "ahead of where he was last week, so we're really counting on him to play."

"I thought that was a remarkable job by him," Carroll said of Brown's performance vs the Falcons. "He wasn't able to practice during the week, he only got the final walk thru and then went out there and played really good football. He's a terrific player and he did a great job in the game. Under those circumstances, that's remarkable."

3. "There's A Really Good Chance" Jarran Reed Will Play

Jarran Reed has "a really good chance" to play Sunday against San Francisco, Carroll said. The defensive tackle missed this past Monday's game with a hamstring injury.

"He was close last week, but we didn't make it," Carroll said. "We're in the same kind of mode right now with him, we'll figure it out. But there's a really good chance he will play."

4. Mike Davis To Be A Gameday Decision

Running back Mike Davis, who was promoted off the practice squad last week, injured his groin Monday night in his first game as a Seahawk. The setback forced him to the sideline after a promising start to the game, and while Carroll said Davis is "really anxious to try to get through it and get back" in time for Sunday's game against his former club, the decision on Davis' status will go "all the way to game time."

"He did a nice job in his first time out," Carroll said. "We're really pleased with the showing. It was kind of what we had hoped, that he would show a little bit of something and he did, run game and pass game. Unfortunately this groin thing, I don't know where it's coming from. Eddie (Lacy) suffered from it a couple weeks back. I don't think it's catchy, but certainly in the running back room it's been a problem."

5. Luke Joeckel "Has A Chance To Get Back"

Left guard Luke Joeckel continues to rehab from the knee surgery he underwent during the Seahawks' bye week. Carroll said this week will be Joeckel's first time back on the practice field and that the veteran lineman could potentially play Sunday against San Francisco.

"Luke Joeckel has a chance to get back," Carroll said. "We're looking forward to him."

6. Eddie Lacy "Seems To Be Totally Healthy Now"

Lacy, meanwhile, was active for Monday night's game against the Falcons, but saw his snaps limited as he worked his way back from a groin injury of his own. But Lacy looks to have regained his health, Carroll said.

"Coming off the long weekend we didn't have a great bead on how he would be for the week," said Carroll. "He made it through the week OK, but he seems to be totally healthy now, so we have the freedom to do it at any way that we want to."

7. "We'll See How It Goes" With Michael Wilhoite

Carroll wasn't sure on the status of linebacker Michael Wilhoite, who was inactive against the Falcons with a calf injury.

"We're going to try him during the week," said Carroll. "We'll see how it goes."

8. DeShawn Shead "Really Close"

Cornerback DeShawn Shead remains on the team's physically unable to perform list and has yet to return to practice, but that could change soon, Carroll said.

"He's close now. He's really close. As a matter of fact I'll be watching his workout today, we've already touched base on it," said Carroll. "He's trying to just get over this final kind of hurdle to make sure that he's equipped and well prepared to go. It's not yet, but it's getting close."
