The Seahawks locked up receiver and standout returner Rashid Shaheed ahead of the start of the new league year.

On his first day with the Seahawks, Rashid Shaheed made his intentions clear.

"I'm here to stay," Shaheed said in his first press conference after arriving in a midseason trade. "I'm excited to see if we can figure something out after the season ends. But, yeah, I'm excited."

Shaheed, who came to Seattle in the final year of the rookie contract he signed with the Saints, was asked if that meant he planned on being with the Seahawks long term, answered, "Yes, long term."

Three months later, after proving to be a dynamic addition to a Super Bowl-winning defense, Shaheed made good on that Day 1 declaration, signing a multi-year deal to keep him with the Seahawks.

"I was confident just because of the chance that Seattle took to get me here," Shaheed said after signing. "And now that I'm here, signing a contract after a Super Bowl, it means a lot for me to stay. My whole family is excited, I'm excited, and this is everything I prayed for."

Shaheed said of his eventful 2025 season, "It's been a lot, but it was all well worth it. Just to come here and be a part of this organization and to see all the progress this team has made, from the first game to ultimately winning a Super Bowl. Just to be a part of it all, you can't really write it any better. It's a blessing."

Looking to add a playmaker on offense and special teams, the Seahawks sent fourth and fifth-round picks to the Saints in exchange for Shaheed in early November, and the move proved to be a big one in the Seahawks' journey to a Super Bowl title. In addition to making some big plays on offense, Shaheed was a game-changer in the return game, returning a kickoff for a touchdown in a win over Atlanta, and a punt for a touchdown to help spark a dramatic comeback win over the Rams in Week 16. Shaheed, who was the only player in the NFL with kick and punt return touchdowns during the 2025 season, added another kick return touchdown to jumpstart Seattle's playoff run, returning the opening kick 95 yards for a touchdown to set the tone in a divisional round blowout win over the 49ers.

Shaheed, who earned Pro-Bowl honors as a returner, finished the 2025 season ranked fifth in kick return average (29.8), and fourth in punt return average (14.7) just behind teammate Tory Horton, who was averaging 14.9 per return prior to suffering a season-ending shin injury.

Shaheed sticking around gives the Seahawks a deep and talented group of receivers, including AP Offensive Player of the Year and first-team All-Pro Jaxon Smith-Njigba, Cooper Kupp, Shaheed and Tory Horton, a standout rookie before his season was cut short by a shin injury.

"We're dangerous, we know that, we know what we can do," Shaheed said. "Obviously with JSN being the Offensive Player of the Year, we know what he can do, Coop is still doing it, me being able to provide in ways that I can, and then Tory, there's so many different varieties of athletes, and we all can make plays in different ways, so it's going to be a ton of fun."

And with the benefit of a full offseason and training camp with the team, Shaheed and the Seahawks will also be looking to expand his role in the offense.

"I'm super excited to get a full offseason with this team, with these coaches," he said. "It's exciting that I get to be around these guys for a longer amount of time and build off of what we built last year, and for my role to continue to grow. Just being a part of it all is special."
