Seahawks Sign Running Back Rodney Thomas II

The Seahawks signed former Indianapolis Colts safety Rodney Thomas II on Monday.

Thomas was a seventh-round pick out of Yale for the Colts in 2022, and the addition of the 6-foot-1, 196-pound safety adds depth to Seattle's secondary. Thomas has spent all four seasons of his NFL career in Indianapolis, and in his first two seasons, started 25 games. He has played in every game of the regular season each season. Over 68 games played, Thomas has six interceptions, 102 tackles and 10 passes defensed.

In 2025, Thomas played heavily on special teams, racking up 278 snaps played, good for 61 percent of the special teams snaps.

On his weekly radio show on Seattle Sports, Seahawks general manager/president of football operations, John Schneider said Thomas is "Very rangy, intelligent, instinctive."

Schneider added, "A player that loves our defense and had other opportunities and wanted to come here and compete in our safety room."

Thomas said the passion he could feel from the watching Seattle's defense play is what helped him make his decision.

"The brotherhood," Thomas said. "It just speaks volumes on the tape. Just something I want to be a part of, something that I'm used to, just guys pulling for one another, just laying it on the line for the guy besides you. It's a part of the program I want to be part of."

He added, "You could just see every time someone makes a play, if you just turn it on randomly, you'll see everybody celebrating, you can't tell who made the play because everybody's that excited for the guy beside them."

In Thomas, Seattle is getting a player who recognizes the importance of playing for his teammates.

"I just want to be the best that I can be for the team," Thomas said. "Just flying around, making plays, doing whatever I can to help the team get some wins."
