Why Nick Emmanwori Is On The PUP List & Other Seahawks Injury Updates

Head coach Mike Macdonald gave updates on Nick Emmanwori, Dante Fowler Jr., Zach Charbonnet and Kenny McIntosh after the Seahawks' first day of training camp.

The Seahawks took the field for their first training camp practice at the Virginia Mason Athletic Center on Saturday in front of a sold-out crowd. While most of the team was practicing, there were a few players watching from the sideline.

Earlier this week, Nick Emmanwori, and as expected Zach Charbonnet and Kenny McIntosh were all placed on the physically unable to perform list. Charbonnet and McIntosh are both rehabbing an ACL injury, and Emmanwori is recovering from an ankle surgery.

"So, with Nick's situation, it's the ankle from the Super Bowl," head coach Mike Macdonald said. "I think the best way to describe it is something that he's been dealing with since the Super Bowl, he was able to perform, like able to train, do some things in the offseason program, but just got to the point where it was the best for him for the long term, just to go ahead and get it fixed. And so that's what we all decided to do. It's really the best thing for him, for now and the foreseeable future, for the rest of his career."

Macdonald did not give an answer on whether Emmanwori would be ready for the start of the season, but the outlook is that this won't be a long recovery process.

"We don't have necessarily a timetable," Macdonald said. "It's not like we lost him for the season or anything. You know me, I don't want to put time on it. But it's not a serious thing where you're looking at any long-term consideration."

Since Emmanwori is on the PUP list, he can return to practice at any time during training camp, but if he is still on the list when the roster is finalized on August 30, he will have to miss a minimum of four games.

Dante Fowler Jr., who the Seahawks signed during free agency also did not practice. Unlike Emmanwori, Fowler is not on the PUP list and Macdonald called his absence from practice a "precautionary thing."

"We have a plan for him, so he'll be practicing sooner than later," Macdonald said.

As for McIntosh who tore his ACL last training camp, Macdonald said there is no timetable for his return right now.

"That was a tough injury," he said. "I know we're going on almost a year now. That was a really unfortunate injury for Kenny Mac. But he's right there. He's rehabbing. He's working hard."

And Charbonnet who also tore his ACL late in the 2025 season is still rehabbing, but was seen out at practice watching from the sidelines.

"He's done a phenomenal job," Macdonald said. "He just attacked the heck out of the offseason and his rehab as you'd expect and the returns have been what he's deserved. He's really put in that work. I'm really excited about where he is. No timetable right now. He's kicking butt and he deserves a shoutout because he's a special guy."
