Featuring postgame quotes from the following:

Head Coach Mike Macdonald

Obviously really pleased with our performance. Thought the guys have been getting after it this camp, and had a big practice two days ago coming back getting our bodies, spirits, minds right to go play a game, and perfect weather for Seattle football. But just really pleased how we started the game. Defensively would've been great to get off the field in third down. A little miscommunication there on that first third down, but I think how we finished the first half and how we started the second half was great for us. So can build on that. A lot of stuff to build on. Look there is plenty that we're going to need to fix and go attack moving forward. Then, you know, big week for us going to practice against a great Green Bay team and finish the preseason out. Looking forward to that trip, and onward we go. Really pleased with our performance here, especially at home.

Q. What did you like most about the run game tonight?

I think just right now our offensive operation I'm very pleased with. How we take the ball, the decisiveness in how we move and shift. Felt like we called our targets right. Just felt like we were going to the right guys for the most part really until about the fourth quarter. Backs ran really hard. Every back today I thought ran the ball hard and going forward how we finish plays, can't wait to watch it.

Q. How about Sam Darnold on that opening drive?

Really sharp. Pretty sure he wanted to keep going, but he showed what he can do, so really great drive.

Q. In the preseason when you're sending your starters out there, is that about the perfect way, just go out, drive down the field...

Yeah, offensively it's about how you would script it. Defensively I thought we would play a little bit better.

Q. You said the word "relentless" is an attribute you guys want to be described as. Was tonight a good example of what you're looking for there?

Yeah, a lot of great stuff. You can do it within a play. You can do it within a drive, within a half, within a game. Would love to have covered that punt better. That's stuck in the back of your mind, and our coverage units need to improve, but I think it improved from the first game for sure. Just the mentality of, hey, let's go finish this thing out the right way.

Q. Dareke Young is a guy that's been making plays in camp and then three catches today. Obviously been a big special teams guy. Where have you seen him grow offensively this year?

I think this is a great system for him because he can show his physicality in the run game and he's really fast, so all the vertical stretch stuff. And then just him in and out of his breaks is just way more decisive. You feel the burst, feel the flexibility, which is a tribute to his work ethic and the work he put on his body. The guy looks like a figurine out there, man. It's impressive.

Q. Vanilla not the way you like to run. Why is vanilla not the way you guys go into these games?

It's just who we are. Like it's boring to play two calls. We have a menu that we have throughout the whole preseason. We run the same stuff every preseason. It's kind of a smorgasbord of all things our system. Just a sampler. Yeah, that's what we do. Been doing it forever.

Q. Was the Jalen Milroe third and short part of that sampler?

I would say more defensively, but that's something we're looking at.

Q. What did you think the way Jalen Milroe played right now walking off the field?

I thought he did well. There are some things operationally we still want to improve on. Couple throws right down there in the red zone I think could've been more on target. Moved the chains. I think we had an eight-minute drive there in the fourth quarter. Got to move forward and finished with a field goal. Would've been great to finish with a touchdown there.

Q. How do you feel about the way the entire defense, top to bottom depth chart...

I think coming into this game felt like we didn't finish it right against Vegas and these guys did a great job. They came in and I thought we played physical. You're always thinking of it's great, but you're thinking of stuff, hey, we can build off. The guys are working really hard, making calls, running to the ball, leveraging the ball. I think we are tackling really well, which is great.

Q. You say operationally with Jalen Milroe. Talking about pre-snap?

Yeah, just getting in and out of the huddle, motion, shifting, getting all call and everything, cannon plays, all that.

Q. Is Ken Walker still dealing with the foot thing?

Yep.

Q. The play that Julian Love made, the fourth down, to have a veteran guy in a preseason game, what does that show?

Julian? Oh, on the fourth down.

Q. Yeah.

Yeah, these guys got a lot of pride to them, man. That was a heck of a play. In order for him to make that the D-line has to be stout. It's a tough play to stop in short yardage. Julian shot his gun and made a great play. That was a team stop right there.

Q. Going back to the offensive line, the holes that were there for the running backs, you've allowed one sack in two games. Just the way you're seeing that whole group work, the time they had to throw, what are you seeing collectively out of that group and the success they've had so far?

We're just plugging away. Our offensive line coaches are doing a heck of a job. John Benton, Rico (Rick Dennison), JO (Justin Outten), Quinshon (Odom). It's really clear what we're asking them to do. They're determined and playing really hard and practicing really hard. A lot of great stuff. A lot of great stuff. But I just told the team, hey, this is what we're capable of to a certain extent. These are things that you get a feel for what we can do. There is a lot of stuff we can improve on and it's also the second week of preseason. Like it's great, but it's a building block for us moving into the season, and we want to be playing our best football throughout the season but keep getting better all the way from here on out.

Q. There was some question about Tory Horton and whether he was dinged up at all.

Yeah, Tory got a little bit of ankle. He could've gone back in. We just shut him down. He wanted to go back in. That was my call.

Q. Any other injuries coming out of this?

Let me see here. I don't think so. Bryce (Cabeldue) had a little bit of an elbow. Came back in. (Brandon) Pili had a chest. We think it's a contusion, we'll see. He was doing an interview after the game and looked pretty happy.

Q. How much does the clarity of mission helping the offensive line, do you think?

I think it's a driving force behind what we're doing. There is no gray. There is no changing things. There is no maybes. There is no kindas, sortas. These are the rules; this is how we identify it. These are your targets; this is your footwork. Let's rock and roll. If I was a player that's the way I would want it so I could go do my job, so that's the expectation.

Q. After Kenny McIntosh went down, how do you feel about the way the young backs like Jacardia Wright and Anthony Tyus III coming in...

Look, these guys work really hard. You ask our guys, we get a lot of reps. We're going to take advantage of the time and we believe in getting volume and experience and stacking those things and callousing. These guys take a lot of it, especially those bottom guys in the running back room. Not bottom, but you know what I mean, not the starters. So I'm glad they had that opportunity to go put their work on display.

Q. Jake Bobo punt returner; is that a new specialty?

It's a possibility. Looked pretty good out there.

Q. How would you assess Drew Lock's night?

I thought Drew was really sharp. He's decisive. I felt his footwork and timing, which is something we wanted to work obviously on coming off the first game. Got to ask him how he slowed down on that scramble. That was pretty cool. Yeah, Drew is doing a great job. Really great quarterback. We love him. I love having him around. Really great guy and so great for our football team.

Q. What about Jake Bobo with the two touchdown catches?

He's another one just working away, doing all the great things. He hasn't had that many opportunities. I felt like he had probably more opportunities last camp, like highlight type plays. But, man, this guy is a Seahawk. The way he operates and then he goes and attacks the football. It was great to see him have that opportunity.

QB Sam Darnold

Q. How did it feel out there?

Good. First of all, it was awesome to just get out there in front of the 12s in that atmosphere. I felt like that was kind of a perfect atmosphere. Felt like it was almost November, December already out there in the rain. It was an incredible atmosphere too. Again, like I said last week I think to you guys, just the way the fans came out during the preseason game, it's incredible to see. Football-wise I think offensive line dominated really most the game, which is always great to see. That first group, that second group, even the third and fourth group went out there and played really well together. It felt really good to get out there in front of the 12s.

Q. When you're running the ball like that what's that do for the offense, big gain after big gain?

It's huge. Whenever you can get a big gain and just stack that up and play-action, run some keepers off it, makes my job a lot easier as a quarterback.

Q. Just pace, it's only August of course, but how close is that to the script or mentality you want to play with?

The way we were able to run the football like we talked about, mixing in keepers and play-action and even some dropback there on second down early in the drive, it was our style of football. It's the style we wanted to create in OTAs and even training camp. We started to find our identity that way. Can kind of see to come to life. Like you just mentioned it's August, so there is still a long ways to go in terms of where we want to be as an offense. It was really good to get out there and just take the field as a unit the way we wanted to.

Q. Sam, on the passing game, you only threw four, but four different receivers. Talk about that.

Yeah, it's great. Great to get the guys, different guys touches. That's what we're going to be as an offense. We're going to be very multiple. We're going to use different guys in the pass game and the run game so that defenses aren't going to know what to expect.

Q. We've seen Klint Kubiak get you and Drew Lock outside the pocket quite a bit, and that's been a part of his offenses in the past. What do you like about that?

I think whenever you go run the football, that's always going to be a threat, to be able to get outside the pockets on movements and keepers and be able to stress the defense that way horizontally. We are going to stress them vertically as well, but when you can put that stress, run some wide zone, inside zone, and different gap schemes and all of a sudden you're running keepers off those plays, makes it very tough on defenses.

Q. I know it's just August, but you mentioned the variance in the run game. You guys had two big runs in the first preseason game that were coming off the gap teams, and today you're getting the horizontal displacement. For this stage of the season do you feel pretty darn good about where that is in terms of what the line is able to do with all those different types of schemes?

I think we've been playing solid as an offense. I feel like we've made strides during training camp, but there is always ways to improve. I think just continuing to get in and out of huddle, personnel getting in and out, you know, moving the football down the field, me being very discipline in the pass game. If it's not there down the field, getting to my check down. There is always ways to be able to get better, and we're going to look at the tape and continue to grow as an offense.

Q. Mike Macdonald mentioned to us how quickly you're getting the ball out in practice and he went up to you and said you're a pain in the butt now to try to pressure. Where has your evolution been from the start of the training camp to now in that regard?

I think as I've grown as a quarterback the more experience that I gain, you know, it's always on first and second down, that's the goal: get the ball out as fast as possible. Whether that's to your No. 1 target organize whether that's to your check down. The faster you can move through these progressions, kind of understand what coverages they want to play and understand what's going to be open. Like, okay, concept won't be open versus certain coverages. They're playing that coverage. How fast can I get to the check down. Just having that understanding of the system and what defenses want to do to us, that can only help me as a quarterback and also us as an offense.

Q. How much of what Macdonald is throwing at you in practice is going to help you for what you'll see in the season?

Yeah, exactly. That's kind of what I was getting at. It's just trying to get the ball out as fast as possible with coach's defense; our defense does a great job being able to mix in different looks, and the more that I can see that as training camp continues to go -- I know we're going Green Bay to play the Packers in joint practice, but in these practices leading up to the season, it's always a challenge to be able to figure out where I want to go with the football and what kind of coverage our defense is playing, what pressures they're bringing. Am I hot, am I not. That whole cat and mouse game that our defense likes to play, and that we kind of fire back with as an offense. It's been really fun in training camp and I've learned a lot about the system and where my certain outlets are on certain plays.

Q. How much of the trust aspect plays into that, the growing trust with your receivers like Jaxon Smith-Njigba knowing he's going to be prepared?

I think our receivers have been doing a great job first of all of learning, understanding the system, kind of making it our own. It's one thing to run a route like it says to on paper, but when you get a certain coverage you might have to widen out a little bit to get this guy to sluff off and come underneath a linebacker and maybe field zone. Whereas the paper just says five yards up, five yards in. For guys to be able to make this offense our own I feel like our receivers, tight ends, and running backs have all been doing a great job of kind of taking ownership of the system.

QB Drew Lock

On Jake Bobo

When he's out there you feel comfortable knowing he's out there. One-on-one chance on the touchdown that's the guy you're going to go to, super reliable. Extremely good at getting open, working leverage of defenders, and knowing how to get open. Returning a punt, just a versatile guy that we're lucky to have.

On the run game

Even on that first drive I was in, I threw one pass, and it was the five-yard screen to (Jake) Bobo, and we scored. If we can do that, throw one pass and it's inside or at the five, it speaks wonders to those guys up front and our backs. Working tracks every day in practice those guys are on their P's and Q's right now. It's preseason week two, we've got a long way to go on this, but it's a good foundation.

On his growth from last week to this week

There was definitely growth. Taking care of the football, keeping it in our hands, getting the ball out on time, progressing through reads, working up in the pocket to be able to scramble and maybe make some more plays with my feet. There's definitely progression from week to week. I have to keep doing it every week though.

S Julian Love

On the tone set for the whole team when the rushing game is going so well

It sets a tone of validation that our work's going to something. The defense was excited about the flow that we had on offense today. When you're able to stay on cadence, on timing, ahead of the sticks, it is awesome. I don't know the final numbers on time of possession and all that stuff, but we see what it can be. Obviously, it's Week 2 of the preseason, we've just got to rep for the season.

On being a starter, 7-year veteran, and making a big hit on fourth down

I find value in the preseason, maybe not playing a ton of snaps, but I feel like I just want to hit Week 1 of the regular season; just hit the ground running. I need to get a few tackles under my belt. (We) have some new bodies out there, I want them to understand how I communicate, how I operate on game day. Game day is just a different speed than practice. As much as you can try to simulate the game, you learn something new about somebody when they're out there on the field on game days. I like playing a little bit in preseason.

On how encouraging a game like tonight is for the team

It's really encouraging. I don't think you could script it better on offense in terms of the flow of how we want to play. We were able to run the ball, obviously work play action, and all that stuff off of it. Make throws when we need to make the throws, but just keep the ball, keep the clock running. Then defensively, that first group out there wasn't super clean. There was obviously errors to improve on, especially those third downs, but it just goes to show that the defense needs to stay ready when our offense is moving and grooving, because they can hold the ball for a big clip at a time.

On how the defense has grown from year one to year two under Mike Macdonald

Because we have so many people back, and the staff is pretty much intact, we're tackling the details of everything instead of the big picture of what are we are doing. That's been kind of the story of camp. The footwork, the cadence, the details of everything, as opposed to just throwing out an install and learning all from the jump. It allows us to be completely ahead of the pace. Now we're chasing the edits, we're chasing perfection, as much as you can obtain it. That's what we're trying to make the standard on defense.

On what may need improvement, on the first defensive series

Just urgency and communicating with each other. We were assignment sound, but just the timing of everything, when motions and shifts are happening; Lumen (Field) is loud. We have to be on better timing and understand how each other operates, and also who we're communicating with. We change every shift, motion, play, formation, so there's a lot to it and it's important to get those reps in front of our crowd. When we're rocking in there, that's when we have to be at our best on defense.

On the defensive depth

That's what I was most excited about today. Those guys were balling. There were very little explosives, the DBs were tackling well today. The D-line, those young boys up there, are getting it. Across the board it was just exciting to see. And then you see the guys just making a name for themselves. It's across the team. You see some of those young running backs, just running hard no matter when their time is called. You see the 'Mil Ticket' (Jalen Milroe) out there, Milroe, getting active. It's exciting to see, not just the depth of our defense, but the team. It's exciting to see the guys kind of get that first preseason game up off them.

On what caught his eye tonight

Uh, Jake Bobo? We joke around with Bobo so much, but him catching a screen pass for a touchdown was exciting. Obviously, the fade ball, that's Bobo 101. You see him back there catching punts; when we saw that, that's when the sideline probably went the most nuts. What is he doing back there? We must be out of returners. He's a guy who is mature and is ready for any moment that's called for him. Defensively, I thought Isas Waxter did a great job. Young Pepe (Damarion Willilams), he did a great job. 37 on defense, just to name a few names.

On what Bobo and Devon Witherspoon are like in practice

That's funny that you mention those two guys. Spoon (Devon Witherspoon) specifically talks a certain way to Bobo out there, and Bobo is starting to get a little chippy back with him, because Spoon is very unfiltered. If he catches you feeling a certain way, he'll just keep it going. Bobo and him, they have a lot of words to each other, out of love, of course. Those two, in practice they have a certain chip on their shoulder. With Bobo, Spoon is the first to dap him up after all of his plays in the game today.

On the team's closeness, after the tackle for a safety) "The Big Healthy, that's what we call (Brandon) Pili, the Big Healthy. Dude plays with passion, plays with fire. In practice, if you're out there, you hear him yelling, hear him getting after it. It's exciting, because especially in that defensive line room, you've got some cagey vets in that room. Some guys who obviously have accomplished a lot in this league, so to see young guys stepping up and playing with a chip on their shoulder is exciting, especially for that room.

On why Brandon Pili is called the 'Big Healthy'

He's been available and healthy and it stuck. It was a certain nickname last year, but I don't want to repeat that nickname, and so it changed to the 'Big Healthy.'

I appreciate you guys.

WR Jake Bobo

On his screen pass touchdown

There was nobody out there. Great call by Kubs (Klint Kubiak). I think they brought pressure, didn't know, there was a whole lot of green grass out there. It was good, happy to get in the paint.

On returning punts

I did a little bit in college. Don't research my return average. Something we talked about, being a guy that if we needed to, being a guy that could go back there and catch the ball and get positive yardage. It was good to finally field one in Lumen (Field). Been fielding them in practice for a couple weeks. Thought for a second that I had a seam; closed up pretty quickly on me.

On what he thought about watching the offense

If we can run the ball like we did tonight. It's preseason but that's something that we want to do. To be able to do it here, do it against guys in different colored jerseys. It was good and if we can do that it's going to open a whole other dimension for this offense. It's something we want to do. It was good to get it done tonight, but we've got a lot of work to do to get to where we want to go, especially in the run game aspect of things, because it will open up a whole other bunch of things we can do on offense.

On the emphasis on blocking as receivers in this offense

It's more important than it has been in previous years. We've always taken pride in the receiver room in playing a role in the run game. It just so happens that this year in Kubs's (Klint Kubiak) scheme it's going to be a whole lot more important than it has been. It's fun to see guys, Jax (Jaxon Smith-Njigba) is sticking his head in there. We take pride in it for sure in our room and that's something we will continue to do.

FB Brady Russell

On tripping as he ran for the endzone

I got too excited. I saw green grass, I got excited. Seeing red, thinking I'm going to score, and then it just happened. Although I still think that guy didn't touch me when I was on the ground and they should have let me keep running when I got up.

On the run game

I saw a lot of physicality and I saw the traits we've been talking about over and over and training over and over in camp translate over to the game. So, really, it didn't surprise me because I know we have a bunch of dogs up front and dogs throwing the rock behind us. I know if they get their pads down, that's what it's going to look like every time.

On how his preseason is going

Good. I feel like I have been playing well. There are things I wish I could do better, and there are things I've been really pumped about. I don't know why that's such a hard question to answer. I've been excited about the different ways they've been using me. I've been excited about them letting me do different roles, so it's been good.

T Abraham Lucas

On the run game

That's what we said we were going to do. Like I said, it is preseason so it is the fact that we're doing it as much as we are working on it. We're happy about it.

On what the offense still has to work on

I think there's always a ways to go. I think we're a lot better than we were when we first started installing things back in spring and in OTAs. We can only get better and that's what the film will show when we look at it.

On not being satisfied with the offense

No, never. I'm the wrong person to ask that question. There's always things to improve on and get better at. For me personally, it's just about trying to be masters of it. Mastering takes a long time, it takes thousands of reps and a lot of patience with it. I like to think that's where we're headed.

G Anthony Bradford

On the offensive line's performance in the first quarter and rushing the ball

It felt great. That's our identity as an [offensive] line that we built over the offseason, in OTAs and with training camp still going on. It felt like what we've been waiting for.

On Klint Kubiak's vision for running the ball coming to fruition

There was no doubt because as soon as they arrived, that's what we've been doing as an [offensive] line. So that's why you can see when we're out on the field that the product is coming off so well. They've been stressing it on us. You've got to run the ball, you've got to run the ball.

On how his training camp has gone and how the new offensive system fits what he likes to do

It's been going good for me. My offseason was critical to how it's going right now. I feel like the offense is going to be great. I'm a powerful dude and to get dudes running on an angle and me showcasing my power, it's going to work for me. I feel like it's going great.

RB Damien Martinez

On the offense's performance

I think everybody just dominated tonight. We talk about it all the time about playing a style that nobody wants to play. I think we really showed that tonight. We got a little bit of Seattle weather, so we showed what's to come for this season.

On his first NFL touchdown

It was crazy just being with the guys and them celebrating probably more than me. It was cool. It was just a good feeling to get back in the endzone and be out there with the guys.

On seeing Klint Kubiak's offense come to life tonight

It's been real nice, even in practice, just seeing it. We always talk about it every day, trying to be explosive for one, and then bring that domination, that style that nobody wants to play. We talk about it every day and want to prove it out here on the field.

RB George Holani

On how much Klint Kubiak emphasized establishing the run this week

I feel like we were dialed in on all three phases. We came out really strong. Special teams, offense, and defense. We really executed the gameplan and everybody really showed out today.

On what he saw from the other Seahawks running backs tonight

It was great to see the running backs eat tonight. Getting Dame (Damien Martinez) for his first touchdown, that was pretty cool to see. Zach (Charbonnet) finally got to get in there and get his feet wet. That's just things we see every day from the running backs. Jacardia (Wright), he had a crazy run where I thought he was down, but he was still up, and I was like, 'Dang he got 15 yards out of that.' He was giving that second effort and showing up all around. It was good from the receivers blocking, tight ends blocking and offensive line blocking,

On returning kicks today

It was pretty fast. Guys flying all over the place. Being able to react and trying to make a play after that first kick return. It was out the door, and it was a pretty good return, but we just have to clean up a few things on the blocking and then we will have a lot more explosive runs in there.

TE AJ Barner

On how the blocking helped the run game in the first half

Honestly, I think our coach did a darn good job getting his guys prepared. I feel like we have really great schemes on both sides of the ball. Going up against our defense in camp, it has been very competitive in camp, so I would say kudos to the coaches for putting us in the position to succeed.

On the pass-run distribution tonight

I thought it was great. We showed what we could do. We were firing on all cylinders, and like I said, there is still a whole other level to get to. Loved the rain tonight too, it was a good touch.

On the offensive line

Yeah kudos to the O-line. People have said what they have said about our O-line, but this is a new group, and they are coming for it all. I am really excited about those guys. Us, the tight ends, we work hand-in-hand, and we take a lot of pride in that.
