Seahawks rookie running back Kenneth Walker III is climbing up the stat sheet as he gets acclimated to life in the NFL.

round up oct 19

Good morning, 12s. Here's a look at what's out there today — Wednesday, October 19 — about your Seattle Seahawks.

Kenneth Walker III Is Making His Mark

Seahawks running back Kenneth Walker III has just five games under his belt, but he's beginning to show why he was the 2021 Doak Campbell and Walter Camp Awards winner. After a breakout game in Seattle's 19-9 win over the Arizona Cardinals in Week 6, optimism is high for what Walker brings to the table for the Seahawks.

Walker saw a career-high of 21 carries against the Cardinals in Week 6, as a result of Seattle losing veteran back Rashaad Penny for the season to a broken fibula. Walker didn't disappoint, rushing for 97 yards and a touchdown. In the two weeks prior, Walker took a combined 16 handoffs, but impressed in Week 5 against the New Orleans Saints, scoring his first-career touchdown on a 69-yard run.

Over the last two weeks, Walker has forced 14 missed tackles:

Despite the small sample size, Walker has many optimistic about what he may do in the coming weeks. Walker's 5.52 yards per carry are best amongst all qualified rookie running backs, and he's tied for No. 4 in big plays (20+ yard rush) with four. On just 44 attempts, Walker has forced 22 missed tackles, another league-best.

Seahawks coach Pete Carroll took to the podium after the game to discuss his star rookie back.

"He'll be more consistent," said Carroll. "He's gonna get better, he's gonna get better at seeing things and taking advantage of the blocks and all of that. Man, he's a good football player. I'm hoping we can keep him growing, he gets his feels, his timing, because really he's a weapon."

High praise from a man that's coached a plethora of talented backs, but from what we've seen so far - it's warranted.
