Good morning, 12s.

Here's a look at what's 'out there' for today – Tuesday, October 29 – about your Seattle Seahawks:

2019 Community Impact Award Winner: CenturyLink Field

If you happened to order French fries with your Bud Light while at the Seahawks' Week 6 matchup against the Baltimore Ravens, you may not have even known where the potatoes used to make the fries came from.

The clash of conferences took place a couple of weeks back at CenturyLink Field was the Seahawks' annual sustainability game, something put on by the stadium once per season. More than 6,000 pounds of potatoes sold are grown using compost from the stadium's diverted food waste.

Recycled potatoes and more, CenturyLink Field was recently recognized by Seattle Business Magazine with the Gold Award in the Sustainability category of this year's Community Impact Awards.

On top of all food service products being compostable, the multi-purpose stadium has a 97% waste-diversion rate, which is the amount of waste diverted from the landfill for recycling. Seattle Business Magazine reads that the stadium also "uses 100% paper-based, ocean-degradable straws, and 25% of the stadium's energy consumption is generated by on-site solar power."

This isn't the first time that the EPA has honored the stadium for sustainability. CenturyLink Field was given a regional 'Food Recovery Award' for donating nearly 14,000 pounds of food to local food banks in July of 2019.
