Thursday Round-Up: Seahawks Legend Walter Jones Honors Cortez Kennedy With '96 CHECK' Initiative

Seahawks legend Walter Jones has big plans to honor his former teammate.

Good morning, 12s.

Here's a look at what's "out there" for today — Thursday, August 23 — about your Seattle Seahawks:

96 CHECK Initiative

Seahawks legend Walter Jones has big plans to honor his former teammate.

With today being the late Seahawks Legend Cortez Kennedy's birthday, Jones put out a PSA this week on social media to raise awareness of his upcoming "96 CHECK" initiative which honors Kennedy and is aimed at helping family and friends stay connected with one another.

"When the passing of 'Tez happened, you get a call from a lot of people, but then you'll get that one call from someone that's just asking you how you're doing, and sometimes that can help you get through it," Jones said on NFL Network in 2017. "So for me that's why I wanted to start this, to think about those players that weren't the Hall of Famers, the All-Pros, but those guys that went to battle with you, that you made friends with. Everybody on the team from the first man to the 53rd man, that guy was a part of the team, so you don't want to forget those guys."

Jones said that Kennedy would call him periodically out the blue to check in and see how he was doing. The campaign, which is on September 6, encourages current and former NFL players, coaches, staff and fans to reach out and check in with a person they haven't talked to in a while.

On that September 6 date, Jones plans to pick up the phone and call several friends. You should, too.
