The Seahawks made several roster moves on Wednesday, including the additions of former Pro-Bowl safety Quandre Diggs, who was signed to the practice squad, and veteran running back Cam Akers, who was signed to the 53-man roster.

The Seahawks also promoted cornerback Shaquill Griffin and linebacker Patrick O'Connell from the practice squad to the 53-man roster. Cornerback Derion Kendrick was waived and linebacker Chazz Surratt, who injured his ankle in Sunday's win over the Titans, was placed on injured reserve to make room for those additions.

In addition to Diggs, the Seahawks also signed to the practice squad running back Myles Gaskin and receiver Jimmy Holiday, an undrafted rookie out of Louisiana Tech. Tackle Logan Brown was released to make room on the practice squad.

The Seahawks also designated rookie defensive end Rylie Mills to return to practice. Mills, a fifth-round pick out of Notre Dame, tore his ACL late in his senior season, causing him to open his rookie season on the physically unable to perform list. Mills can practice for up to 21 days without counting towards the 53-man roster limit, but would need to be added to the roster in order to play in a game.

Diggs returns to Seattle, where he spent four and a half seasons from 2019-2023, to give the team added safety depth with Julian Love and Ty Okada both dealing with injuries while Akers gives the Seahawks another experienced running back with George Holani dealing with a hamstring injury.

This is a homecoming of sorts for Diggs, who after the final game of the 2022 season described his time in Seattle by saying, "Me coming here almost four years ago, it changed my career, it changed my life."

Diggs' provides some added depth at safety, where Coby Bryant is currently the only healthy starter. Love, who was teammates with Diggs in 2023, has been on injured reserve with a hamstring injury. He is eligible to return as soon as this week, but Seahawks coach Mike Macdonald said Monday they have not decided yet if Love will return to practice this week, and that move was not made on Wednesday. Okada, who had been starting in Love's place, suffered an oblique injury that knocked him out of Sunday's game.

Diggs, who began his career in Detroit, was traded to the Seahawks in 2019, and while in Seattle he emerged as one of the league's top free safeties, recording 18 interceptions, 32 passes defensed, two forced fumbles and 345 tackles over the course of 72 starts. A two-time team captain and three-time Pro-Bowler, Diggs recorded three or more interceptions for six consecutive seasons from 2017-2022 dating back to his time in Detroit, making him the first safety since Ed Reed to accomplish that feat.

Diggs was released by Seattle in a salary cap-related move following the 2023 season, then signed with the Tennessee Titans as a free agent. Diggs appeared in eight games last season for the Titans before a foot injury landed him on injured reserve. He re-signed with the Tennessee this offseason, but with the Titans struggling this season, Diggs was released earlier this month, with interim head coach Mike McCoy describing the move as the team and Diggs "mutually parting ways."

Akers, a 2020 second-round pick of the Rams, has appeared in 56 career games over six seasons with 17 starts, including three games this season with the Minnesota Vikings. Akers spent his first four seasons with the Rams, winning a Super Bowl after the 2021 season, then was traded to the Vikings in 2023. He spent part of the 2024 season with the Texans, then was again traded to the Vikings partway through that season. For his career, Akers has rushed for 2,044 yards and 13 touchdowns on 507 carries, as well as 52 receptions for 388 yards and four touchdowns.
