John Schneider, the man who helped turn the Seahawks into Super Bowl champions and who has overseen a decade and a half of success, will continue as the team's general manager and president of football operations into the next decade.

Schneider, already the longest-tenured general manager in team history, signed a contract extension with the Seahawks on Wednesday that runs through 2031.

"The extension of General Manager John Schneider's contract is a testament to his 15-plus years of football leadership and success," said Jody Allen, chair of the Seattle Seahawks. "I am confident that John will continue to deliver real results and a continued strong partnership with head coach Mike Macdonald that is already contributing to our winning culture on and off the field."

Schneider joined the Seahawks in 2010, partnering with head coach Pete Carroll to rebuild the team and quickly turn Seattle into a perennial playoff team. The Seahawks made the playoffs in their first season together, winning the NFC West in 2010, and in their fourth season, the Seahawks hoisted the Lombardi Trophy after a dominant win in Super Bowl XLVIII.

Since Schneider was hired in 2010, the Seahawks have compiled the sixth best record in the league with a 147-96-1 mark, and won 10 or more games in nine of the past 13 seasons. The Seahawks have reached the postseason 10 times in 15 seasons since Schneider's arrival in Seattle, winning five NFC West titles and two conference championships.

After a long and successful partnership with Carroll, Schneider hired Mike Macdonald in 2024, making the former Ravens defensive coordinator the league's youngest head coach at the time, and in Macdonald's first season, the Seahawks went 10-7, making him the winningest first-year coach in franchise history.

During his time in Seattle, Schneider has overseen some of the most successful drafts in franchise history, including a 2012 class that included Bobby Wagner, one of the best linebackers of his era and a sure-fire Hall of Famer when he retires, and quarterback Russell Wilson, a nine-time Pro Bowler during his time in Seattle. In all, Schneider's draft classes produced 16 players who went on to earn a total of 52 Pro Bowl selections, and five who earned first-team All-Pro honors a total of 14 times.

Schneider also made trades to acquire several key players over the years, most notably the 2010 deal to add Marshawn Lynch, who became a franchise icon, a first-team All-Pro and a four-time Pro Bowler while helping set the tone for a Super Bowl-winning team. In all, seven of Schneider's trade acquisitions have gone on to earn Pro-Bowl honors as Seahawks, as have nine free agent signings, seven of them unrestricted free agents and two of them undrafted rookie free agents.

In addition to the 2024 transition from Carroll to Macdonald, Schneider has also overseen some significant changes to the roster over the years, most notably the 2022 trade that sent Wilson to Denver in exchange for multiple draft picks, including two first-round and two second-round selections, as well as three players, a move that helped the Seahawks inject the roster with young talent in the past few draft classes, with the 2022 and 2023 classes producing 12 players who have been starters or significant contributors on offense and defense, including Pro-Bowl selections Riq Woolen, Devon Witherspoon and Jaxon Smith-Njigba.

Off the field, Schneider and his wife, Traci, have made a big impact through their nonprofit, Ben's Fund, which was founded in 2012 and named for their son, Ben, who was diagnosed with autism when he was three. As of earlier this year, Ben's Fund has raised more than $5.2 million, money that has funded more than 4,000 grants distributed, providing technology, equipment, therapies and other services to families affected by autism.
