Seahawks Getting Healthier Ahead Of Week 5 Game vs. Giants

After playing without several key players in Monday’s loss, the Seahawks should be healthier for their Week 5 game against the New York Giants.

The Seahawks were hit by some bad injury luck last week, having to play a tough Lions offense without five top defensive players: defensive end Leonard Williams, defensive tackle Byron Murphy II, outside linebacker Boye Mafe, outside linebacker Uchenna Nwosu and linebacker Jerome Baker. The Seahawks then lost another key defensive player, safety Julian Love, to a thigh injury that caused him to miss the entire second half.

Less than a week later, the Seahawks will be much closer to full strength when they host the Giants. Love and Mafe are listed as questionable, but three other players out last week—Baker, Williams and Nwosu—do not have game status designations, meaning they should be ready to go.

"We'll see, we've got a couple of guys questionable, so we'll see how that plays out the next couple of days, but things are positive," Seahawks coach Mike Macdonald said.

For Nwosu, Sunday will mark his first game of the 2024 season presuming he does indeed play. Nwosu who missed the second half of last season with a pectoral injury, suffered a knee injury in Seattle's preseason finale, causing him to miss the first four games of the season.

Murphy, who injured his hamstring in Week 3, is the only player on the 53-man roster who has been ruled out.

On the two players listed as questionable, Mafe and Love, Macdonald said, "It was a good week of practice for both guys. They're both working through their individual things, and it's positive. It's all good, guys aren't having a setbacks, so it's just a matter of when it's the best for them to come back."

Love, who has been named a captain for this week's game against his former team, was more definitive, saying, "I feel good, ready to go."

Asked if that meant he plans on playing Sunday, Love said, "Yeah, plan on playing."

Also out this week will be Cameron Young, who was designated to return to practice this week after opening the season on the physically unable to perform list. While Young did return to practice this week, he is not yet ready for game action and will not yet be added to the active roster.

"Cam looks really good, it's great to see him out there," Macdonald said. "I know he's working his tail off, he's been getting after it for a minute now. He's been working on the side the whole time, but now he's back with the guys, he's got the helmet on, doing all the reps, so I'm excited for him, excited about the opportunity. It's obviously not going to happen this week, but if and when, he'll be ready to rock."

The Seahawks practiced on Thursday, October 3, 2024 at the Virginia Mason Athletic Center to get ready for the team's upcoming conference matchup with the New York Giants.
