It probably came as a surprise to no one that Seahawks receiver Jaxon Smith-Njigba ended Seattle's 13-10 win with an impressive 122 yards and one touchdown on eight receptions. The big night for the fourth-year receiver, essentially was an extension of what Smith-Njigba showed he was capable of in his record-setting 2025 season.

In Wednesday night's game, quarterback Drew Lock, who was playing in place of an injured Sam Darnold, connected with Smith-Njigba on a few large-chunk gains, including a 45-yard touchdown, which was Seattle's lone touchdown of the evening.

On a play that he's never run before in practice, Lock was able to find Smith-Njigba wide open on a fourth-down play.

"I was happy it was a pass play," Smith-Njigba said. "They thought it was a run, I believe they sent a blitz. My job was to find the zone and Drew did a great job of finding me. After that, it was just do what I do, just try to get upfield, protect the ball. Great upfield blocking by our tight ends, that's something that we preach heavily each week, we call it "E". It showed up tonight."

He added: "I love throwing the ball on fourth and short and third and short. There's a lot of space out there and I think Drew did an incredible job of just finding me and making the right play."

Although it was a play he's never run before, Lock said he could tell pre-snap that Smith-Njigba might have had a chance to make a play.

"No, definitely never ran it," Lock said. "Looked kind of funny before the snap. Didn't really seem like they had anybody ready to match Jaxon based on what I knew we were about it run. He's the third read in that play, and when 11 is just standing there, you got to give him the pill."

On the play, Smith-Njigba gained 41 yards after the catch, which was 35 yards more than expected per Next Gen Stats.

Lock made light of the fact that Smith-Njigba turned the play into a large gain.

"Do the work for me, bud," Lock laughed. "Go get that thing done. Yeah, just another Jaxon moment that doesn't surprise any of us but turns into a cool highlight reel."

Head coach Mike Macdonald said, "It was just it's the type of stuff that not a lot of people can do, but Jaxon can, so that was a tremendous play."

And Smith-Njigba continuously is doing things that other people can't, that it comes as no shock to anyone in Seattle's locker room anymore.

"Not surprised at all," fellow receiver Rashid Shaheed said. "Best of the league for a reason, and he proved that once again today."
