For much of the second and third quarters, the Seahawks looked like they were on their way to a convincing victory over the Los Angeles Chargers. But somehow, as a strange and disjointed game came to a close, the Chargers found themselves with the ball and trailing by only seven points.

Any hopes of completing a comeback, however, quickly came to an end when Uchenna Nwosu sacked Justin Herbert, forcing a fumble that Derick Hall recovered to put the game on ice. The end result was a rather odd 30-23 victory at Lumen Field that improved Seattle's record to 3-1.

Here are six rapid reactions to Sunday's win over the Chargers:

1. The Seahawks took control after a very weird first quarter.

Sunday's game got off to what looked like a great start for the Seahawks when linebacker Drake Thomas intercepted Justin Herbert on the game's first play from scrimmage, but on the very next play, Sam Darnold threw an interception when trying to hit Emanuel Wilson on a checkdown after the running back appeared to stumble a bit coming out of his break.

Two plays, two interceptions; making it the first time since at least 1978, per the Elias Sports Bureau, that both teams threw interceptions on their first play from scrimmage in the same game.

The Chargers got a field goal out of that exchange of turnovers to take an early 3-0 lead, then the Seahawks took the lead on a short field after Connor O'Toole recovered a muffed punt. That big special teams play set up a 23-yard touchdown reception for Wilson on a screen pass, giving the Seahawks a lead they would never relinquish.

In addition to those back-to-back interceptions and a muffed punt, a rather odd first quarter, which took 50 minutes to complete, also featured five penalties for 55 yards for the Seahawks, and five possessions for each team, though the Chargers' fifth possession went into the second quarter.

Once the Seahawks settled in in the second quarter, they got rushing touchdowns from Rashid Shaheed and Wilson, a second interception, this one from linebacker Ernest Jones IV, and were in control the rest of the way, though slew of penalties helped keep the Chargers in it in the second half.

2. With Jadarian Price out, Emanuel Wilson stepped up in a big way.

The Seahawks were without rookie running back Jadarian Price, who was placed on injured reserve a day earlier due to a chest injury, and they don't yet have Zach Charbonnet back, as he is still on the physically unable to perform list. But despite being without two of their top backs, the Seahawks got plenty of production out of that position, thanks in large part to a great outing for Emanuel Wilson.

Wilson, a free-agent signing this offseason, scored Seattle's first touchdown on a screen pass, which he took 23 yards to the end zone, then he added an 8-yard touchdown run in the second half. Wilson finished the game rushing for 81 yards and a touchdown on 21 carries, and added 39 more yards through the air, including the first-quarter touchdown catch.

Adding to a solid performance from the run game, which produced 138 yards on 33 carries, were receiver Rashid Shaheed, who had 33 yards on two carries, including a 28-yard touchdown, and George Holani, who added 18 yards on seven carries.

3. It's safe to say that Nick Emmanwori is all the way back, as he and fellow DB Devon Witherspoon made plays all over the field.

Second-year safety Nick Emmanwori, who missed almost all of training camp while recovering from ankle surgery, did not play in Seattle's opener, then was limited to just nine defensive snaps in Week 2. He played a bigger role in last week's game, and by Sunday against the Chargers, Emmanwori was back to looking like the versatile, play-making standout he was as a rookie.

In his most productive game of this young season, Emmanwori had nine tackles, including two tackles for loss, as well as a sack, a pass defensed and two quarterback hits.

Fellow versatile defensive back Devon Witherspoon added nine tackles as well, including a tackle for loss, including some great open-field tackles to support Seattle's run defense.

4. Linebackers Ernest Jones IV and Drake Thomas led a strong defensive effort.

While the Seahawks will lament the way the Chargers were able to stick around with three late scoring drives, there was still a lot to like about Seattle's defensive performance, including big games for linebacker Ernest Jones IV and Drake Thomas.

Each recorded interceptions in the first half, with Jones' setting up a touchdown. The veteran also recorded a team-high 12 tackles and sack. Thomas, meanwhile, had five tackles, one tackle for loss, and a quarterback hit.

5. Rashid Shaheed showed off his big-play ability.

The first few weeks of the season were relatively quiet for receiver and returner specialist Rashid Shaheed, but as Seahawks coach Mike Macdonald said when asked about Shaheed, it is only a matter of time before a playmaker of his caliber makes his presence felt, and that's what happened on Sunday.

Shaheed had just one catch, but it went for 20 yards, and he also gave the Seahawks a spark in the run game, carrying twice for 33 yards, including a 28-yard touchdown run. Shaheed also added 95 total yards in returns -- 12 on punt returns and 83 on three kick returns.

6. Penalties made the game a lot closer than it needed to be.

The Seahawks looked to be in total control of Sunday's game when they extended their lead to 21 points with a Tory Horton touchdown reception early in the third quarter. At that point, Seattle's defense looked to be in total control and the offense had found a rhythm.

But with the Chargers unable to move the ball much at all on their own, the Seahawks gave them multiple assists, picking up multiple 15-yard penalties, including four on the Chargers' two touchdown drives. In all, the Seahawks were penalized 14 times for a whopping 150 yards, while the Chargers were flagged 16 times for 130 yards, making for a rather disjointed game.
