One of the league's most explosive passing attacks added a playmaker ahead of the NFL's trade deadline, with the Seahawks acquiring receiver and returner Rashid Shaheed in a trade with the New Orleans Saints.

The trade, which is pending physical, will send two draft picks, fourth and fifth rounders in 2026, to the Saints in exchange for Shaheed.

Shaheed adds speed and big-play ability to a receiver room that already includes the league's leading receiver in Jaxon Smith-Njigba, veteran Cooper Kupp and rookie Tory Horton, who has five receiving touchdowns and six total touchdowns midway through his first season.

Shaheed, who signed with the Saints as an undrafted free agent out of Weber State in 2022, had 44 catches for 499 yards and two touchdowns through the first nine games of this season, including an 87-yard touchdown in a win over the Giants this season.

In four seasons with the Saints, Shaheed has 138 catches for 2,055 yards and 12 touchdowns, as well as 19 rushes for 128 yards and a touchdown. Under current Seahawks offensive coordinator Klint Kubiak, Shaheed was off to a strong start last year before suffering a season-ending knee injury in the sixth game of the season, catching 20 passes for 349 yards and three touchdowns, giving him a career-best 17.5 yards-per-catch average.

Shaheed has also excelled as a returner, earning first-team All-Pro honors as a punt returner and Pro-Bowl honors as a return specialist in 2023 when he had 25 punt returns for 339 yards and a touchdown, and 28 kick returns for 1,479 yards. In his NFL career, Shaheed, who was an All-American returner in college, has 64 punt returns for 804 yards and two touchdowns as well as 38 kick returns for 3,891 yards.

Even before adding another big-play threat, the Seahawks have been one of the league's most explosive passing teams, with Sam Darnold leading the NFL in both yards per pass attempt (9.6) and yards per completion (13.7). The Seahawks' seven completions of 40 or more yards are the most in the NFL, and their 34 completions of 20-plus yards are tied for the most in the league.
