The Seahawks earned an emphatic road victory coming off of their bye week, beating the Commanders 38-14 behind huge games by Sam Darnold and Jaxon Smith-Njigba, and another standout performance by the defense.
Here are 12 numbers that help tell the story of Sunday's 38-14 win, which improved Seattle's record to 6-2:
10
Consecutive road wins for the Seahawks, adding to a franchise record.
11
Wins in his first 12 road games for Mike Macdonald, making him just the third coach in NFL history to win 11 of his first 12 road games, joining former 49ers coach George Seifert (1989-1990) and current Rams coach Sean McVay (2017-2018).
17
Consecutive passes completed by Sam Darnold before he threw a third-quarter incompletion, matching a franchise record for consecutive completions set by Warren Moon.
330 & 4
Yards and touchdown passes for Darnold, his second game this season with at least 330 yards and four touchdowns. With a 141.0 passer rating, Darnold has a rating of 111.4 or better in five of his last six games, bringing his season rating up to 116.0. That rating ranks second in the league, just behind Drake Maye (Lamar Jackson would be ahead of both but does not have enough pass attempts to qualify), and if he can keep it up, it would top Russell Wilson's franchise-best mark of 110.1 set in 2015.
129
Receiving yards for Jaxon Smith-Njigba on eight catches, bringing his league-leading total up to 948 yards through eight games. That total makes Smith-Njigba one of two players, along with Isaac Bruce, with at least 900 yards in the first eight games of a season at age 23 or younger. He also became the fifth player in the Super Bowl era with at least 75 yards in each of his first eight games of a season, joining Adam Thielen, Antonio Brown, Michael Irvin and Dwight Clark. Smith-Njigba also set a franchise record with his fourth consecutive 100-yard game, and matched Steve Largent's record for 100-yard games in a season with six. Smith-Njigba is also up to 221 career receptions, passing DK Metcalf for the most receptions in franchise history through a player's first three seasons.
4
Sacks recorded by Seattle's defense, the fourth time this season the Seahawks had at least three sacks in a game.
0
Sacks allowed by Seattle's offense, the third time Darnold has not been sacked in a game this season. The nine sacks allowed by the Seahawks this season are tied for the fewest in the NFL.
2
Touchdown receptions for Tory Horton, giving the rookie receiver six total touchdowns and five touchdown receptions this season.
290 and 14
Yards gained and points scored by the Commanders. Through eight games, the Seahawks have held seven of their opponents to 20 or fewer points, and they've held six opponents under 300 total yards.
1
As in career-first accomplishments for several Seahawks. Receiver Cody White recorded his first career touchdown, as did rookie tight end Elijah Arroyo, while safety Ty Okada had his first career interception, and nose tackle Brandon Pili had his first career forced fumble, knocking a ball loose on special teams to create a turnover that set up Arroyo's touchdown. Rookie linebacker Connor O'Toole recovered the fumble, also a career-first for him.
10
Tyrice Knight's team-leading tackle total, a number made all the more impressive because the second-year linebacker saw almost all of his playing time in the second half after Ernest Jones IV exited late in the second quarter with a knee injury.
81
The Seahawks point differential through eight games, which is the second best in the NFC behind the Rams, who are at plus-82, and the third-best mark in the league behind the Rams and the Colts (plus-109). That's relevant because the best point-differential teams in franchise history are also the most successful ones. The Super Bowl-winning 2013 team had the best differential in team history at plus-186, followed by the 2005 team (181) that reached the Super Bowl, the 2012 team (167) that finished on a tear and reached the divisional round, the 2015 team (146) that also finished as one of the league's hottest teams, and the 2014 team that reached the Super Bowl (140).
