Ziggy's Ansah's Seahawks debut will have to wait, as the defensive end is inactive for Sunday's regular-season opener against the Cincinnati Bengals.
Ansah, who signed with Seattle as a free agent in May, missed training camp and all four preseason games while working his way back from shoulder surgery he had last season. Ansah did return to practice last week, but Seahawks coach Pete Carroll cautioned on Friday that Ansah might not quite be game ready when he was asked about Ansah and fellow defensive end Jadeveon Clowney, who was acquired in a trade last weekend.
"They made it through," Carroll said following Friday’s practice. "There's still a little bit of a question mark, we've just got to make sure on gameday that everything worked out OK because they're still responding to the workload. So there's still a little bit of a question for Ziggy. We just want to make sure he's all right. But they both did really well, and we have really positive thoughts coming out."
While Ansah won't go, Clowney will make his Seahawks debut just a week after being acquired in a trade with the Houston Texans.
Also listed as questionable was guard Mike Iupati, but he is active for Sunday's game. Iupati, who has been out since early in camp with foot and calf injuries, returned to practice this week. Ethan Pocic has played in Iupati's place at left guard throughout camp and the preseason. It is possible that Pocic could still start even with Iupati active if they want to give the veteran another week to work his way back. The Seahawks have done similar in past seasons, twice dressing an injured Justin Britt as an emergency backup while starting Joey Hunt.
DK Metcalf, who had a minor knee procedure three weeks ago and missed the final three preseason games, is active as expected. Fellow rookie receivers John Ursua and Gary Jennings are inactive, however.
