The Seahawks will not have starting safety Ty Okada for their season opener against the Patriots, the result of a hamstring injury that kept him out of practice this week. They could also be without versatile defensive back Nick Emmanwori, who is making his way back from the ankle procedure he had prior to the start of camp.
Okada, who started 11 games last season, has been ruled out for Wednesday night's game, while Emmanwori, who was limited in practice this week, is questionable.
"Nick had his most work in the last couple of days," Seahawks coach Mike Macdonald said Monday. "(He) looks great."
Also questionable is second-year receiver Tory Horton, who was limited in practice due to a hamstring injury.
With Okada out and Emmanwori questionable, the Seahawks have only one fully healthy safety on their 53-man roster, veteran Julian Love, but they have depth on the practice squad that they can and surely will tap into for Wednesday's game, with four safeties on the practice squad, or ready squad as they call it—Rodney Thomas II, AJ Finley, D'Anthony Bell and Maxen Hook.
"Readiness," defensive coordinator Aden Durde said when asked what he's seen from the practice squad safeties. "They breathe confidence into us as coaches, play callers, head coaches. Everyone sees the work they put in, and they're ready to take the opportunity that arises when it comes up."
Said Macdonald, "Everybody that's practiced with us and been here throughout camp, we're excited with where they're at, we feel like they could contribute to us playing great football."
No other players on Seattle's roster have game statuses, meaning everyone else is available, including running back Emanuel Wilson (hamstring) and rookie cornerback Julian Neal (quadricep), who both missed significant time in training camp and did not play in the preseason due to injuries.
For the Patriots, running back TreVeyon Henderson (ankle) and backup center Ben Brown (knee) have been ruled out.
