Wednesday's Injury Report
The Seahawks kicked off their practice week ahead of Sunday's game in Pittsburgh with two players not participating due to injury, safety Nick Emmanwori, who exited last week's game with an ankle injury, and cornerback Devon Witherspoon, who is listed with a knee injury.
Seahawks coach Mike Macdonald said Monday that Emmanwori has a high ankle sprain and could end up on injured reserve, which would require him to miss at least four games, but on Wednesday Macdonald said the decision of whether or not to put the rookie safety on IR would wait until late in the week.
Macdonald was not asked about Witherspoon, so there was no further update on his status. Witherspoon was slow to get up after Josh Jobe's fourth-quarter interception on Sunday, but he eventually jogged off after the play and was back for the next defensive series, and played all 76 defensive snaps in the game.
The Seahawks are hoping to get three players back from injury who missed the opener, receiver Jake Bobo (concussion), receiver Dareke Young (hamstring) and outside linebacker Uchenna Nwosu (knee). Young was limited in practice Wednesday, while Bobo and Nwosu were both full participants.
Asked what Nwosu's return to the defense will mean, whether it comes this week or in the near future, Macdonald said, "We know what he brings, he's incredibly smart, tough as crap, great all-around football player, great game runner, and great intuition. He's a leader for us. This is a guy that, you haven't felt it on the field as much in the last year, but he's bringing it every day in the meeting, in the building for our football team. It's going to be awesome, whenever he gets back, just to have him out there."
