Good morning, 12s. Here's a look at what's out there today — Wednesday, January 4 — about your Seattle Seahawks.
Kenneth Walker III Closing In On 1,000 Rushing Yards
Sunday's season finale against the Los Angeles Rams not only provides rookie running back Kenneth Walker III with the chance to help his team make the playoffs, but also to make franchise history. Needing 64 yards to join Seahawks Legend Curt Warner as the only backs to rush for 1000-yards in their rookie year, Walker also has a strong case for the Offensive Rookie of the Year honor as well.
A fourth 100-yard rushing game as a rookie will surely bring attention, especially when it's your second-straight game doing so, as Walker has done the past two weeks. The Michigan State alum has climbed to the top of many Offensive Rookie of the Year rankings lists for national media outlets, as he continues to churn out stellar performances in Seattle's playoff chase.
On the year, Walker sits at 936 rushing yards and nine touchdowns on 199 carries. After less than 25 carries over his first-four games, Walker logged seven contests with over 50 yards on the ground.
In October, Walker was asked to step up as the next man after running back Rashaad Penny was placed on IR. In last week's 23-6 win over the New York Jets, Walker did just that, reaching 1,000 yards-from-scrimmage on the year with 142 all-purpose yards. Averaging 4.7 yards per carry on the year, Walker has a chance to make history for himself, and help his team earn a playoff spot in Week 18.
