Thursday Practice Report: Quandre Diggs & Josh Gordon Limited Participants For Seahawks

A look at the Seahawks practice report following Thursday’s practice leading up to a Week 10 game against the 49ers.

The Seahawks kicked off their practice week Thursday afternoon with all but three players taking part in the action.

Among those players practicing, albeit on a limited basis, are a pair of newcomers, receiver Josh Gordon and safety Quandre Diggs, who are hoping to be able to make their Seahawks debuts in Monday night's game against the 49ers.

Diggs, who arrived in a trade two weeks ago, has been inactive for the past two games due to a hamstring injury, but Seahawks coach Pete Carroll said the former Lions safety should be able to practice this week with a shot of playing Monday. Gordon, who was claimed off of waivers late last week, will also practice this week, though he was limited Thursday with an ankle injury.

"I can't tell you much yet," Carroll said of Diggs prior to practice. "We're counting on him practicing all week this week. We just have done a walk through, so this is first official walk through where he could do everything. We'll see how it goes. I can't tell you yet. I'm hopeful that he can contribute and help us this week. He has had the benefit of a couple weeks of studying and he's been out there for the walk throughs and all that kind of stuff. He hasn't had a full speed step yet on the field. So today's his first chance."

Carroll said Gordon is in a similar situation to Diggs: "It's similar to Q in that we've just go to get him out there. He went through the walk through, and that's all I know. I don't have any other information than that. He's a smart football guy. He's going to get it. It's not going to take him very long. Just need to see him practice. I can't tell you anything right now on the guys. I just know what they have looked like, but now we're going to make this transition and see what happens. My expectations are not so high that we're going to be disappointed if they can't contribute and all that. But I'm hopeful that they can be a part of it. I think those two guys are kind of in similar modes, but Q has a couple week on him of preparation and all that. Josh has been scrambling to catch up and doing overtime, competing to get that done. So I'm anxious, I can't wait to get out and see what the guys look like."

Asked more about Gordon potentially contributing this week, Carroll said, "If he does really well during the week and feels really comfortable with the things we're asking of him and we can look at him and feel like, OK, he can definitely contribute and go in there and play ball at a really high level, execute on the things we can ask him to do. He's really talented. He looked talented in the walk through. He's a big, good looking kid and all that. He's just got to fit in and see if we can fit it together where it's not a distraction for us. We're not going to put him in the game to throw him the ball. We're trying to win a football game. If he can help us do that then we'll figure out a way."

Also limited was defensive lineman Quinton Jefferson, who has missed the past two games with an oblique injury. Carroll expressed optimism prior to practice that Jefferson would make it back this week.

"We're expecting him to be full-go," Carroll said. "We're really excited to get him back."

The Seahawks could also be getting back tight end Ed Dickson this week. Dickson returned to practice last week from injured reserve, but was not added to the 53-man roster for Seattle's Week 9 win over Tampa Bay.

"He looks better even this week already just running around out there," Carroll said. "I think his confidence in getting a week under his belt at practice. He's ready this week to go. If we can get him up there, we'll do it. He's ready to help us now."
