NASHVILLE—The Seahawks had what head coach Mike Macdonald called "a great work day" on Friday, practicing with the Tennessee Titans, but there was also one piece of bad news coming out of the joint practice.
Receiver Jake Bobo, a favorite among teammates, coaches and fans alike, went down with a knee injury while attempting to make a leaping catch, and the early indications is that it was a serious injury.
"Our heart goes out to Jake Bobo, it seems like it's going to be a serious knee," Macdonald said after practice. "We're going to get it imaged, but early returns, it looks like it's a long-term injury. That's unfortunate."
Bobo, who initially made the team as an undrafted free agent in 2023, and while he has never put up big offensive numbers, he has turned himself into a crucial member of the team with his play on special teams, his run blocking, his ability to make a clutch play in a big moment, like a touchdown in the NFC championship game, and his work ethic and attitude that rubs off on teammates. This offseason, Bobo signed an offer sheet with the Jaguars as a restricted free agent, but the Seahawks were quick to match the multi-year deal to keep him in Seattle.
"He's a beast, man," said Macdonald. "He's a just a great football player, a great Seahawk, hopefully we reflected that in our investment in him. We love him, we'll be there beside him as he recovers, and pray it's a speedy recovery. We love him."
Said quarterback Sam Darnold, "It hurts, man. He's one of those guys, he works, he talks a lot of stuff. He's kind of like Spoon (Devon Witherspoon) in a way, offensively. He brings the juice every single day, and he just does his job. It sucks to lose Bobo, but I know he's going to attack it and be better whenever he comes back."
Added safety Ty Okada, "I'm praying for Jake. He's nothing but a great player and a great person, and my prayers go out to him. All of our teammates are going to have Jake's back. We always want nothing but the best for all of our guys, so we just pray for him for a healthy recovery."
