Eric Saubert, who’s had two catches all season before Thursday, helped Seattle pull off its biggest win of the season.

Despite not being a player who gets the ball often, having just two catches all season prior to Thursday, tight end Eric Saubert came through in a huge way in the Seahawks' 38-37 win. His only target and reception came on a two-point conversion attempt in overtime to seal the prime-time win.

Following a touchdown by Jaxon Smith-Njigba, the Seahawks were down 37-36 and head coach Mike Macdonald and company made the decision to go for two, to win in overtime, and that decision paid off as Sam Darnold connected with Saubert in the endzone.

Saubert said, "Had a chip on the defensive end. Helped out the left tackle. I knew I was late in the progression. Sam is amazing at going through his progression. He found me late, then I kind of blacked out after that, so I can't say any more after that."

Immediately after the conversion attempt was ruled successful, the Seahawks cleared the bench and stormed the field.

"I just felt the love from my teammates," Saubert said. "We got a team full of just amazing people. We all care about each other and feel the love from them and it just felt incredible."

Macdonald said going for two following the touchdown was something the team has had in mind to do.

"Well, it was something we had talked about really throughout the season," he said. "Then really particularly for this game because of the playoff situation. You know, do you play for the tie and lock up a playoff seed. I just felt great about our play and I trusted our guys. To Klint's credit, he was really confident and then the players ultimately make it happen. Once we got that drive going it was pretty clear what we were going to do."

On the play Macdonald said Saubert was fourth in the progression on the two-point conversion.

"Our offensive line, I mean, that's a tough front to block and Sam being able to extend the play and trust his read and trust his progressions and just a phenomenal play, man. Pretty good feeling when he caught it."

Saubert's mindset the entire time during that play was that he could get the ball at any moment.

"We tell the tight ends, 'Every ball is coming to you, so expect it," Saubert said. "That's kind of my mindset going in, and I'm glad, so glad Sam found me."

The past week has been an eventful one for Saubert. On Saturday, he was activated from injured reserve and signed a one-year contract extension. And then on Thursday, he helped seal one of Seattle's biggest wins.

"The Seahawks have handled everything with such grace," Saubert said. "I'm so grateful to be with these guys for another year. The contract extension, getting back playing ball, doing what I love with my guys, it's incredible."

And in his post-game speech he said, "I've been so many places. This has been such a long journey for me. To come to a place that's just embraced me like you guys have. I love you guys. Let's f** keep on rolling."

Even though he's only been with Seattle this season, he's become an important person in the locker room.

"It means a lot," Jaxon Smith-Njigba said. "It felt like I scored the game-winning 2-point conversion. Just so happy for him and the work he puts in. He's also a big-time leader for us. The O-Line too, credit to them. The guys that don't really get a lot of shine, they're the glue. They're the reason why we go and so I'm very happy for Saub (Eric Saubert) and the rest of the team."

Linebacker Drake Thomas said, "It was awesome. I'm watching Sam (Darnold). He goes through his progression and gets back to that guy. It's just great all-around play, and it won us the game, so it was a great play."
