The Seahawks have had a handful of guests stop by training camp throughout the first week of camp including Seahawks Legends Richard Sherman, Michael Bennett, Cliff Avril, and Duane Brown, as well as longtime NFL coach Tony Dungy.
At Monday's camp the Seahawks were joined by San Antonio Spurs head coach, Mitch Johnson and his coaching staff.
Johnson, who helped lead the Spurs to the NBA finals earlier this year after beating the Oklahoma City Thunder in the Western Conference Finals, is from Seattle, played basketball at O'Dea High School and is a Seahawks fan.
"He's really knowledgeable," head coach Mike Macdonald said. "He's way more knowledgeable about our team and our game than I am about basketball. I mean like I don't really know Wemby (Victor Wembanyama). I'm an idiot right now when it comes to other sports."
The visit by the Spurs was a chance for both head coaches and coaching staffs to gain insight into how they each run their programs. Macdonald said the Spurs' coaching staff has been hanging out around the building, sitting in on meetings and talking to players.
"There's a lot of parallels," Macdonald said. "At the end of the day, we say we sell football widgets. It's a people business on how you align people or do all the things, right? So there's a lot of similarities."
After Monday's training camp practice Macdonald said he'd get feedback from Johnson on how the practice went.
"We had a great visit with him yesterday and kind of talked some shop with him," Macdonald said. "And then we had a full training camp day today that they've been a part of. We haven't really connected much to get feedback on today, but we'll debrief here in a little bit. But it's been a great visit, great people, really aligned on how we want to run our programs, which is a lot of fun and similar experiences taking over for legendary coaches and things like that, which you're able to kind of talk shop with. So that's been really fun."
