Shaquill Griffin, who spent the first four seasons of his NFL career with the Seahawks, is returning to Seattle, a place he credits with "creating him."

"I feel like it took a lot of discussion," Griffin said on signing with Seattle. "A lot of it mainly with my family, having kids now. Understanding that people know that I was here with my twin brother [Shaquem Griffin], so this time around is a tad different. The main thing about it, I wanted my family to see who created me, how it all happened, where it all started, the reason why we're all here. The reason why I met my fiancé, the reason why we have kids, all of that started from this place and to come back full circle, I felt like it was only right that I experienced it with them as well."

The veteran cornerback signed with the Seahawks Wednesday, giving the Seahawks an experienced player to add competition and depth to an already strong position group led by returning starters Devon Witherspoon, Riq Woolen and Josh Jobe. Cornerback JT Woods was waived to make room on the 90-man roster.

A third-round pick out of Central Florida in 2017, Griffin started 53 games and appeared in 57 in his four seasons in Seattle, earning Pro-Bowl honors in 2019. He then signed with Jacksonville as a free agent, returning to his home state, and after two seasons with the Jaguars, he spent 2023 with Houston and Carolina before joining the Vikings last season.

Seahawks Training Camp Registration Is Live

Join us lakeside from July 23 to August 12 for a first look at your 2025 Seattle Seahawks as they gear up for a milestone 50th season.

In Minnesota last year, Griffin appeared in 17 games with three starts, recording two interceptions, six passes defense and 41 tackles. Over the course of eight seasons, Griffin has started 82 of 106 games played, recording 70 passes defensed, nine interceptions and 407 tackles.

Griffin is excited to see how his skillset meshes with Seahawks coach Mike Macdonald's defense.

"I like the way he gets aggressive. I like that he can change things up and I feel like the main thing about it is being able to adjust within the game. I seen it firsthand, getting a chance to play against [the Seahawks] last year with Minnesota, so I got a chance to witness it firsthand. To get a chance to be with a defense like that, I know a lot of my attributes and things I can do can bring a lot to this defense and I'm excited to be a part of it."

While the Seahawks are excited about the players they're bringing back at cornerback, it was no secret that they were also looking at veteran options, including Griffin, who had a free agent visit earlier in the offseason, and Macdonald said during his team's minicamp that the Seahawks would continue looking to add to that group.

"These are great battles going into the offseason," Macdonald said of his team's cornerback depth. "We are going to look to always improve our team in any aspect. We're always going to be out there and try to be in everything and chasing edges on making us better. The guys that are with us right now kind of in that three, four, five spot is exciting."
