When you were asked to attend the Seahawks game, what was your initial thought, never having been to a Seahawks game?

  • I was excited and nervous. The 12s are legendary for their energy and volume. I was curious how the deaf experience would go.

What was your overall experience like?

  • Amazing!I arrived and got lost immediately. I asked a greeter for directions—she signed! Her parents are Deaf. Then I explored Ben's Room, a sensory-friendly space for autistic kiddos to take a break during the game. It's right by Guest Services. It is thoughtful, beautiful. I met Deaf season ticket holders who knew far more than I do about the game. I signed with linebacker Boye Mafe, who learned ASL to honor his late mother. Quiet power. I chatted with Seahawks staff, an also Miki Cole, who signs thanks to her uncle. She told me where to sit next time! Inclusion in action. I squealed when Billie signed the National Anthem—center stage on the Jumbotron. I loved every minute of the game Including the vibrations from 107 decibels!

What did you think about Ben's Room? How did you find that to be helpful or useful in terms of accessibility at the stadium?

  • Bens Room is important. Neurodiversity, an umbrella term for cognitive disabilities including autism is everywhere. My youngest child is autistic and while she loves concerts and games, she also needs decompression time to desensitize. Ben's Room is perfect for that. Lower lighting, away from the rockets and loud sounds, full of soft materials in a safe part of the stadium. Even 15 minutes can enable someone with neurodivergence or Autism to rebalance and get back into it. I loved the space!

What is something that you want others to know who might be hesitant to attend again because of their disability?

  • Seahawks are all about inclusion. Breathe in the nerves, lean on guest services to help and enjoy the game.

What else would you like to share about your experience or that you think we should be aware of?

  • I'm now kicking myself that I waited this long! Lived in the Pacific Northwest for nearly 20 years. I'm not waiting any more.
