Jay My, J5, Money J are all nicknames Seahawks kicker Jason Myers is affectionately known as by his teammates. The last one, "Money J" is probably the most accurate way to describe the game Myers had on Sunday in Seattle's 18-16 win over the Indianapolis Colts.
"We call him Money J for a reason," linebacker Uchenna Nwosu said. "We know when the game's on the line, we've got J's leg, and he'll win us the game like he's done so many times."
Myers made a 56-yard field goal to win the game and outside of that game-winning field goal, Myers had a perfect day and went five for five on field goal attempts, scoring all of Seattle's points in the win. He was also awarded a game ball following the game.
His 56-yard game-winning field goal is the longest game-winning field goal ever for the Seahawks within the final minutes of regulation. His previous longest was 52 yards earlier this year vs. the Arizona Cardinals on Thursday Night Football.
"Jay My has been incredible all year," quarterback Sam Darnold said. "Hopefully we don't need to use him as much as we are. Hopefully they're PATs and not field goals, but he's been doing great job for us."
Last month, Myers was named NFC Special Teams Player of the Month and was the league's leader in points heading into Sunday's matchup and still sits at the top with 153 points, a new single-season career high.
"All hats off to Jay My (Jason Myers)," Byron Murphy III said. "When it comes to games like that you need somebody like that on your team to pull out the win. He's that guy, so I appreciate him. Much love to Jay My."
Throughout Sunday's game, the Seahawks' offensive drives kept sputtering out, going 2-for-13 on third downs and converting its one attempt on fourth down.
"He came through, and we appreciate that," Darnold said. "As an offense, trying to be elite, we have to score in the red zone. That's the name of the game and that's how we're going to win so we have to lock in. We've got a short week [so] we got to lock in and figure out what we need to do better."
Despite the offense not finding the endzone head coach Mike Macdonald said all wins won't be easy, but being able to win in games like this speaks to the team's mindset.
"Just talk about picking each other up, just being there when we need him, being ready, steady," Macdonald said. "I think our field goal operation and protection was really good, too. But, yeah, it was just six field goals. It's not what you want, but when needed, it's great to have them."
Myers added, "The NFL is hard. Not every game is going to be a blowout. They're going to be tight. Just fighting with these guys is awesome."
As they players were leaving the field, long snapper Chris Stoll said, "Send Jay My to the Pro Bowl."
Myers, who set a franchise record of field goals made in a game after hitting six today, now leads the NFL with 37 field goals made this season. The single-season NFL record is 44 field goals. His last Pro Bowl season was in 2022 for the Seahawks where he made 34 field goals, his longest being 56 yards.
Cooper Kupp said, "It is 100 percent a luxury," to have Myers as a teammate. He added, "He has bailed us out so much this year. He's an unbelievable kicker, he's an unbelievable person. Just love being around Jay My and his process is just awesome. Seeing how he goes about his day-to-day work. But, yes, I'm campaigning for more PATs for Jay My."
Myers who had his family in the crowd, including his wife and kids, said the key to Sunday's success was sticking to his routine.
"This is cliché, but you're just trying to stay in your routine," he said. "I work hard on that in the offseason. I work weekly with a guy, back home. You're trying to make every kick the same, whether it is a PAT in the first quarter or a game winner. You're sticking to the routine and just trusting that and trusting all the work you've done and the preparation. Just attack the ball, for sure."
