Three things to watch when the Seahawks take on the Packers in their preseason finale on Saturday afternoon.

The Seahawks wrap up preseason play with a game against the Packers on Saturday afternoon, one that will be a showcase for young players and roster hopefuls. Most of Seattle's starters, who got in a good day of work against the Packers in a joint practice on Wednesday, will not play Saturday, Seahawks coach Mike Macdonald said.

"Our starters probably won't be out there," Macdonald said before making a more definitive statement. "Matter of fact, they won't be. After those guys we'll go rock and roll, and let's go for a great football game, let's go play our style of ball."

Here are three things to watch in Saturday's game at Lambeau Field:

1. How does Jalen Milroe look in his first full game with the Seahawks?

Since the day the Seahawks selected Jalen Milroe in the third round of the 2025 draft, there has been a ton of intrigue about the former University of Alabama star. For starters, Milroe is an athletically gifted player with a big arm and blazing speed, always a tantalizing combination, and he also brings to the table the work ethic and charisma that makes him easy to root for. There is also, of course, the fact that the Seahawks had, prior to this year, selected only one quarterback, 2018 seventh-round pick Alex McGough since picking Russell Wilson in 2012, making a rookie quarterback with upside all the more intriguing to fans.

Unlike Wilson in 2012, Milroe isn't competing for a starting job as a rookie, Sam Darnold is firmly entrenched in that role, but he has all the makings of a player with a bright future. So with Macdonald announcing that Milroe will start and play the entire game, Seattle's rookie quarterback will have a great chance to shine. So far Milroe has played 53 of 134 offensive snaps through two games, completing nine of 15 pass attempts for 107 yards, no touchdowns and no interceptions while rushing for 56 yards on eight carries. On Saturday with Darnold and Drew Lock both getting the day off, Milroe will get a whole game to show what he can do.

"Jalen's going to start the game at quarterback," Macdonald said. "He's going to play the whole game. It's going to be awesome.

"It's a great opportunity for him to get great experience. All rookies, they need reps, they need experience, and Jalen was right there. I know he's excited for the opportunity, and he's going to do a great job. Go out and operate the offense and go play ball the way you know how and let's go."

2. What roster hopefuls make a statement ahead of roster cuts?

With the cutdown to 53 players coming on Tuesday, the unfortunate reality of the NFL is that a lot of the players on the field Saturday won't make the 53-man roster. The looming roster cuts make this final preseason game all the more significant for those players who are either trying to win a job on Seattle's roster, stick around on the practice squad, or show some other team around the league that they're worth a roster spot if they don't land on Seattle's roster.

That group includes several rookies, both late-round picks and undrafted free agents, as well as veteran players trying to win a job. Those roster decisions aren't based on one preseason game alone—the work players did in camp and the previous two preseason games is a big factor—but it certainly wouldn't hurt for any players on the bubble if they can turn in a strong performance on Saturday.

3. Is there any more clarity in the return game?

With veteran receiver and return specialist Steven Sims sidelined by an injury through the first two preseason games, the Seahawks have run through several options at both kick and punt return to figure out who will hold those jobs in the regular season. Rookie Tory Horton was first up on punt return duties in the preseason opener, but an ankle injury knocked him out of last week's game and could very well keep him on the sideline on Saturday. Sims, if healthy enough to play—he took part in Wednesday's practice—will get work there, as could several other players fighting for jobs. At kick return, Dareke Young and George Holani have been first up in preseason games, but again, other players have rotated in, and Sims could also be a factor there.

Will this final preseason game give the Seahawks the information they need to lock down those return jobs?

As the Seahawks get set to face off against the Green Bay Packers in the preseason finale, the two teams joined together for a practice on August 21, 2025 at Ray Nitschke Field in Green Bay, Wisconsin.
