KANSAS CITY—Seattle's Friday night preseason matchup against the Kansas City Chiefs was one of the last times many of the Seahawks backups will be seeing any significant playing time for the rest of the season. And many of them, including quarterback Jalen Milroe, put a lot on tape that they should be proud of.

Milroe, who played the entire game on Friday night while Sam Darnold and Drew Lock got the night off, went 16 of 26 and threw for 223 yards, one touchdown and no interceptions, good for a 101.9 passer rating.

"Thought Jalen Milroe played a really good game," head coach Mike Macdonald said. "Took care of the football and was decisive, made some really strong throws down the field, put us in a position to win there at the end."

Milroe was decisive, accurate and in a groove for most of Friday's game.

Macdonald said Milroe did a good job of sticking to his reads and letting it rip, if the opportunity was there.

"If it's not, progress and then ultimately you are allowed to run too," Macdonald said. "Which I thought I did in some opportune moments. It definitely felt like we took a step in this game and he should be excited about his growth."

From last preseason to this one, Milroe himself said the biggest difference is being more decisive.

"That's the key word," he said. "The preparation that it takes to play quarterback at this level. And then also man, the trust that I have from the coaches that put me out on the field. To be able to get a whole game to yourself, that's trust. That's trust of the coaches believing in me, having my back, talking through the game plan. And so just to be able to have the trust of Coach Macdonald, Mr. (John) Schneider, it's something I appreciate a lot. And so just every opportunity I get to build, get better, I'm going to do so. So I'm really going to attack when we get back to Seattle, be able to have practices and attack it and be where my feet are."

Last preseason, Milroe played one entire game, and said playing a whole game is an opportunity for him to see the ebbs and flows of a matchup.

"To be able to get in the flow, it's very important, especially at the quarterback position and especially going to duration of a whole game," he said. "You see a lot of highs, a lot of low, you see a lot of things that comes at you throughout a whole game. And so that was so important to get this another opportunity to keep on growing, keep on growing, keep on getting better and just not getting complacent. These are great reps that I'm getting and it's going to allow me to be better even in the future. So I'm just taking it day by day and ensuring that this year I'm better than I was last year and just keep on growing that confidence, keep on growing the trust of the coaching staff and just keep putting my best foot forward."

And with the highs, like a 40-yard completion to receiver Cody White or a 30-yard pass to Emmanuel Henderson Jr., there were undoubtedly moments that Milroe would like back from Friday night.

"As the quarterback, you try to put your best foot forward and there are a lot of plays that I want back from the previous game and some in this one as well," he said.

On Seattle's one touchdown drive, the Seahawks went 52 yards on 10 plays and ended the drive on a 4-yard touchdown reception by tight end Nick Vannett.

"That's the point of every drive," Milroe said. "Whether it's a field goal, whether it's flipping field position, whether it's scoring, that's the goal every drive… Every opportunity we have on the field, we're going to try to score. We're going to try to put our best foot forward. And so to be able to have that, that was definitely big for us."
