On injuries
Injury front here. D-Rob (Darius Robinson) had a groin. Walter (Nolen III) had a knee. Bam (Knight) had an ankle. Zay Jones had an Achilles. Simi (Fehoko) had an arm. Rabbit (Dadrion Taylor-Demerson) had an ankle, and Jonah (Williams) had a shoulder. So obviously not our brand of ball today. Got beat pretty damn good, and that falls on me. So (we) just got behind early versus a good team. It's tough to dig yourself out, so not a lot of good from out of that game. I was proud of them that they battled there. They've been in games like that where they just want to get home, and that was not the case, so that was good to see. That's the fabric of our team, but they know we didn't play our brand of ball to give ourselves a shot today to win a game. So we'll go back tomorrow and get to work.
With the way the game kind of started, Garrett (Williams) looked like he was in a good place and kind of fell on the long pass and the fumble. How much does that take out of a team?
Well, I thought they converted that third down, and then they hit us on an explosive. He's a good player. I thought Garrett (Williams) was in pretty good position, good throw and good catch. Then we're in known pass, and you get a sack-fumble, and you are down 14-0, but all is not lost. We punt the ball back. Then they go right down the field and score. So, I mean, you dig yourself a hole. I think it was 28-0 after the third down sack fumble. It's going to be tough to win a game.
What were the issues on the offensive line on the two sack-fumbles?
I mean, it's known pass versus a really good front. You put yourself in known pass, and we've got to protect better and get it out of his hand more.
It seemed like you struggled to pick up their creed of blitzes and stuff. What did you see that went into that?
The first one, I think it was supposed to be five, and they rip six. The second one I thought was just a four-man rush.
Do you have any sense of the severity of Walter Nolen III's injury?
No, I know as little as you guys, truthfully, I don't know.
In the first half overall what did you see kind of go wrong with the pass defense?
Rush mechanics. You know, that one to Cooper (Kupp) too, was that in the first half, 67-yarder. He is scrambling around with a four-man rush, and that's what's going to happen. So at the end of the day, guys, nothing good from that game, and it falls on me. The players are trying. It's not for a lack of effort. I got to put them in better spots. I got to have them ready to go better than what I did today. That's what it comes down to. It's what it is.
Do you need to make line-up changes or staff changes?
No, no.
It seemed like there was some of the kind of sloppiness that we saw earlier in that five-game losing streak. What do you think is causing that?
I wouldn't say sloppiness. I think we got out-coached and out-played. We have to play a lot better versus good teams to have a chance to win, and we did not do that.
Did Seattle do anything that you guys weren't prepared for?
I would have to watch the tape. I probably wouldn't say that, no.
Were these physical mistakes or mental mistakes?
I'm sure it will be a blend of both. Technique. I'm sure there will be some assignments. You know what I mean? It's a good point. When that happens and the score looks like that, it falls on a head coach. It sucks for me to say that, because that's where my mind goes. I didn't do enough of what (was) needed to do throughout the week to get them ready to go. It stings. It's the truth. It's the truth.
You have said that a lot this season after losses. Why do you think that keeps happening?
I don't know. Obviously I didn't have a good enough plan, all three phases. So we just got to look at it. We didn't set it up right.
Obviously not the start that you want. Got them 14 points. I think as the quarterback of the team and the leader of the team, you're just in the huddle to keep telling the guys, one play at a time, one play at a time, and keep your head down, and don't look up at the scoreboard until the end. I think guys respond to do that well, and I think the results aren't what we wanted, but I think we look back on this film, and you see how guys fought towards the end. It's all you can ask for really.
On the two strip sacks in the first quarter, can you take us inside what you experienced? What was that like? What did you see?
Bang-bang plays. Got to do a better job in those situations of protecting the ball and if anything, just take the sack. Yeah, that's really what it was. It just happens so fast. That moment happens so fast that I have to go back and watch the film and see what I can do better.
Did you feel like you were under more pressure today than you have been?
That's, like, very I think broad, or is vague the right word? One of those. I don't know. It's football, you know. You're going to get hit. It's a good team over there, so man, we knew it was going to be a 60-minute game, yeah.
On the strip sacks, you said maybe you should take a sack, but realistically is there anything that a quarterback can do on a play that's that fast?
Yeah, I stand by it. I think to take care of the team, take care of the ball, and I got to find ways to get better in those situations and make better decisions.
Overall, outside of those strip sacks, it didn't seem like the offense moved quite as cleanly as in your first three starts. What did you feel were the differences from this game to those three?
I think really on third down. I don't think we were really good on third down, where we've been excelling at, to prolong drives and run a lot of plays on our terms, I would say. I think really it was third down, you know. Then you play against a team like that, you get behind the sticks, and you kind of got to play a game early that you don't really come into the game planning on playing. I think that's where it really started was on third down. I think we got to find ways to stay on the field. I think the last three weeks we've been top in the league on third downs, and today that was the difference, third down and turnovers.
You outscored them 22-9 after they went up 35-0. I feel like the offense was making moves and scoring some points.
Oh, for sure. Man, like I said, you know it's a 60-minute game. We come back at halftime and say, Hey, look, we can't look up. Our defense does a good job gets us the ball back, and we're pushing. We're trying to fight ways and find ways to get in the end zone. It's just versus a good team you just can't wait that long. You can't put yourself behind the sticks, behind the 8-ball with 14 unanswered early in the game. I think they kind of -- I don't want to say they thought it was over, but we came out, and we put a little bit of pressure on them. I think they felt that, but at the end of the day, you just can't wait that long.
I think you only connected on three of 12 passes to Marv today. Is there something you felt kind of going wrong with that connection?
Got to go back and watch the film and be able to assess what I could have did better.
When they're in the middle of that run, the 35-0 run, can you feel it, or is it one of those things where you look at the scoreboard and are, like, I can't believe it, where did that happen?
Can you feel it? I mean, shit, 14 of it came from me, you know, so I felt that. Yeah, but you know, it doesn't discourage you. More so, we always talk about margins and stuff like that. It tightens the margins up a little bit more. Yeah, it's just tough. Like I said, it really just starts with putting ourselves behind on the 8-ball.
Seattle was without a few key stars on defense. Were you surprised they were still able to put that amount of pressure on you guys still?
No, good team. Good team. Good coach. Coached well. Do a lot of things on defense that, you know, is favorable for them, but yeah.
Jacoby, some of that pressure, is any of that on you as the quarterback to set the protection differently? I'm just trying to figure out whether it was a game plan thing, a scheme thing, an in-the-moment thing? Was any of that on you to help set the protection to make sure that they don't get in your face that fast?
It starts with me.
Yeah, and did you feel confident about the blocking scheme coming into the game?
Yep.
It seemed like they brought a lot of creative blitzes and pressures and stuff. Did it seem like those were causing you more issues than previously?
We knew that they were going to come in, and that's what they do. They cause a lot of confusion and put a lot of guys on the line of scrimmage and kind of drop in and drop out. I think they did a really good job of it today on a couple of things. The sad part is they lucked up into one, and we had a guy run wide open into the middle of the field, and the bad part is it ended up being seven points for them on a strip sack. You know, it's tough. I mean, it's a good team, coached well. Like I said, they play their scheme well. They understand our weaknesses. I think they came out on top.
When you guys were watching the film and comparing the last time you played them, how much different was what you saw on the field today from what you studied all week?
Pretty much along the lines of the same thing.
What did you make of Trey's performance?
Yeah, I mean, it's no surprise. He's, if not the best tight end in the league, and it shows every week. The amount of respect that they gave him on the other side, they tried doubling him as well and putting their corners on him and giving him a whole bunch of different looks. You know, he made the most of a lot of his opportunities.

On what changed from the previous win to the performance in today's first half
This game overall is not what we wanted to happen, obviously. I put that on us, on the O-line. We just have to be better to give Jacoby his opportunities to shine, the same as we did in the Dallas game.
On if he questions the team's level of focus and preparedness and if he feels the team was ready to play today
Oh, yes I do. I do not feel we came into the game not the way we wanted to be. I thought the focus was right. I thought the energy was right. The prep was right. But when the foot hits the ball, now we've got to do it. When the lights are on, that's when we have to show up. So, again, I put that on us because I think the line is the driving force of the energy on Sundays. We have to supply the energy for the team, and we have to do a better job so our quarterback can start lighting it up.
On what Seattle did defensively that caused Arizona trouble
I don't think anything that they brought was out of the ordinary, that we have not seen before. It was just about the execution. That's the thing that we need to hone in on, our execution, because we've seen those looks before.
On if it's bothersome to think Seattle was the more physical team today
I just think that we need to bring more to the line. That's all we need to do, is bring more to the line and meet that force with force so nobody is able to outplay us at the line of scrimmage on those third-and-shorts and those fourth-and-shorts.
On why pulling guards was not working against Seattle
I couldn't really see what was going on. All I could see was the end result. While I'm blocking I can't really see what the guards are doing. That's just execution. I trust the play call. I trust that the look was there, and that's why we called those plays. I just put that on the players. The coaches call the plays, but the players have to make it happen. We want to take that accountability first and foremost.
On what kind of self-reflection is needed to step forward
I think the biggest thing is to watch this film, to eat this loss, and be able to learn from this. Even though we start the game off bad, we have to remain in that zone. We can't allow what's going on on the field to start to turn one bad into two, and two into three. Being able to stay in that zone is the best thing we can take away from this one.

On how the game went
The only bright spot is that you know what kind of guys you have. A lot of guys were playing until the end, but I already knew that about our team. It wasn't like it was new information, I'm just glad to see that. I know who my guys are. You can't win in this league when you are down 35-0. I don't care what kind of heart you've got, it's just tough. You try to believe, you try to fight, but it's just a tall task. At this point in time, you learn as much as you can from it, we put it behind us, and you keep it moving. Our margin for error is officially zero. We have to be almost perfect going forward but, in this business, it's hard to operate that way. So, you know, go out there and just stay present, stay in the moment and fight with everything we have.
On what his message to the team is
The biggest thing is to look at yourself in the mirror and ask yourself 'Can you do more? What individually can we each do more of to put ourselves in a better position? Coach always says 'Start your role, everybody has a job to do, just do your job. Let the talent speak for itself, just play good sound football," You don't want to overreact on big losses. It sucks, but at the end of the day it's one loss. You have to put it to bed, get back to work, we have another one next week.
On what he saw go wrong early on
Giving up 21 points in the first three drives. That's not ideal. They had a couple of explosives (plays). I need to watch the tape to figure out exactly what we did wrong but it definitely wasn't the kind of ball we wanted to play.
CB Garrett Williams

On what it was like being down 35-0
It's tough because nobody thought that it would even be a possibility to be in that situation. Things happen, whether you're down seven, 14, or 35, you still have to play that next drive. So, we just got to take it one step at a time.
On what makes Jaxon Smith-Njigba challenging to guard
They find different ways for him to get the ball, they prioritize him in any way possible, and they trust him. That's pretty much what it is, they trust him.
WR Michael Wilson

On enduring the lopsided start of the game and remaining competitive
I feel that's just a prerequisite of the NFL. Win, lose, or however the game looks, your job is still on the line all the time. So it's a prerequisite just to give effort.
On if it's possible to think this is just not your day after the two fumble return touchdowns
Yeah, I think naturally, human emotion, you would want to think that, but you've got to fight that urge and just continue to play the play because there's been a lot of crazy games in the NFL, and you can't give up after two bizarre plays.
On what Arizona's biggest issues offensively were today
It's hard to come back from two strip-sack fumbles for touchdowns. I just feel like we weren't clicking. I've got to watch the tape and I can give you a better answer next week.
