Can you just talk to how the two quarterbacks worked tonight, going back and forth the way they did?
I thought they both played a heck of a ballgame. I thought Baker (Mayfield) was very sharp, came out smoking on all cylinders and played that way the entire game, and Sam (Darnold) did a hell of a job as well. They were going play for play.
What did you make of the last play, the interception by Lavonte David?
We were saving that blitz for a rainy day and we brought it out. We've been running it a lot, and we didn't run it the entire game, and everybody was waiting on it, and it finally came, and Te (Lavonte David) made the veteran play that he made. He caught the ball just like Dean did last week. He had trouble in practice catching them. It was a heck of a ballgame, and for our leader to step up and make that play was huge.
Baker came into this game with the most deep passes attempted in the NFL. It seemed in the first half it was more short to intermediate. Is that just what he was seeing or was that the plan?
That's what he was seeing. He had a few of them to warm him up, and that's what he was seeing after that, and that's what they were giving us.
Can you talk about the game that Emeka Egbuka had and Tez Johnson stepping up?
Meka (Emeka Egbuka) had a homecoming today. He continues to amaze and compete and do the things that everybody has seen him do like he did in college, and again, he was outstanding. Tez (Johnson) came, it was his coming-out party today, as well. He did some great things at receiver from a route running standpoint. He was very polished, he was very quick, and he can run with the football and he was very poised. B-Mac (Bryan McClendon) did a heck of a job with him.
In terms of Emeka, you've been coaching a long time. Have you seen many receivers this polished on everything in their rookie season?
Not this early I have not, no.
What is it about him that makes him that way?
I mean, it's the whole package. It's his mentality. It's his physical makeup. It's his willingness to work. It's his intelligence. It's his athleticism. He's just one of those guys. He has the entire makeup and the entire package, and that's hard to get, and that's hard to see in a rookie.
Can you talk about Rachaad's (White) run, his decision to get down right there and get those time-outs?
I thought Rachaad (White) did a heck of a job understanding what was going on in the game. Again, we practice all this stuff, and everybody was very in tune with everything that was happening. He played a tough game. He had some good runs. He had some good plays on the screens. He punched it in down there. Buck (Bucky Irving) and Rachaad are 1A, 1B, we don't have a number 2, so he stepped in and was just No. 1 all by himself today, and he's done it before, and he did it again.
I know you have a lot of confidence in Chase McLaughlin, but he was pretty ill from what I understand:
Yeah, he probably needs to be ill more often. It wasn't quite the Michael Jordan flu game, but we'll give Chase McLaughlin his flu game up here in Seattle. He did a heck of a job.
What were you expecting of AJ Barner because he had two touchdowns before this game. Were you kind of expecting plays from him?
We were expecting big plays from anybody, but we know they spread the ball around, and Kubiak does a great job week to week of shifting his plays and not giving you a beat on certain people and a different tight end is featured every week just like a different receiver is. We had to cover the whole field. Unfortunately he got out and he made some plays.
The final minute for you guys, what does it say about this group that it's able to play 59, 60 minutes?
It says we've matured, we're finally playing 59, 60 minutes, and wins early. Got to keep stacking them. They're hard to come by. We're playing good teams, and with injured guys all over the place, and those guys come here and win with a long plane ride says a lot about them.
What does it say about Baker coming all the way across the country against the No. 1 defense in the NFL by some measure?
He was sharp. Baker doesn't try to have two sub-par games in a row. He's still pissed from last week's interception. Had a good week of practice. The focus was there with everybody. He came out and started fast, and he kept it going.
What have you seen from him since he came back up?
Understanding the system. Being in the same system for two years finally for him, settling down and having conversations with Griz (Josh Grizzard) and everybody else over there and him understanding what kind of team he has and getting to know his teammates more, it feels like home for him, feels like home for us.
(On Baker being clutch.)
Lots of practice. We practice two-minute religiously. He learns a lot of things. He sees a lot of things. We execute a lot of ways, and we understand the situations.

I don't know how you put this game in perspective, but it looked like you and Sam Darnold were in the backyard. What did you make of both of your performances and being able to have that turnover that made it possible?
Yeah, first of all, that's a really good football team that we just played. Our defense had a couple opportunities for turnovers there early on. Didn't capitalize, but obviously Lavonte (David) in the end making sure he seals the game for us. But yeah, just obviously the games we've had so far this year, as long as we have time on the clock, we've got a chance, and our guys truly, truly believe that from the bottom of their hearts. It's a good feeling to have, and just guys executing, doing all the little things right, Shep (Sterling Shepard) on a scramble drill to score the touchdown to tie it, and then after Te's (Lavonte David) interception, just guys having the wherewithal, (Rachaad White) in the critical moments, staying inbounds, making them burn timeouts to where we can have the last kick, and then obviously Chase (McLaughlin), perfect day. It's great to have him. I know it was high scoring, but in the end it was complementary football that won us the game.
You came into this game with more deep attempts than any other quarterback. In the first half it was more shorter and intermediate. Was that a plan or is it what you were seeing?
Yeah, they did a good job of not allowing any shots over the top. Trying to make me take the easy completions down low. Obviously who knows; they had a lot of guys banged up in the secondary, so it could have been with that. Just a different mindset defensively. But guys making plays with the ball in their hands, and yeah, executing.
Talk about the play of Emeka Egbuka and what his game is like.
Yeah, something we talked about pregame in the locker room, on these 3rd and little bit extra long looks, we have a certain coverage of 'Hey, if they run it, take the top off, because the corner is expecting help', and he did just that. Obviously protection was unbelievable on that. I'm able to probably triple hitch it. I don't know what it was. Got to get in the weight room, though, so he can run under it under the end zone, but yeah, just Mek (Egbuka) being a smart football player, taking things we talked about in the locker room before and take it to the game field and being able to react and do it well.
Did you see that stutter he put on Josh (Jobe), too?
It was pretty nice. It was pretty nice.
Tez Johnson stepped up for you today. What does it say about him?
He's playing really well right now. He's playing fast. Fast players need to play fast. That means he's confident, and he did that today. Made a couple great catches and then obviously after the catch he had some guys on skates. He's fun to watch. Obviously I love it when he gets down and doesn't get smoked. He did a good job of that.
When you were game planning for the Seahawks this week, how aware were you of how banged up the secondary was?
Yeah, we were kind of -- obviously you always track the injury reports. Tracking No. 3, Nick Emmanwori, just tracking his health status, but obviously with (Devon) Witherspoon and (Julian) Love out, it's just a little different. Guys moving parts. You look at it as, 'Okay, we might have some advantages somewhere', but obviously it still comes down to us just executing. We don't know what kind of strategy they might have, and our guys did that, did the little things right today.
With Egbuka, you've played with a lot of receivers. Is there somebody who comes into the NFL this practiced this early, have you seen this before?
Never. Never. He's kind of one of one.
What is it about him that he's so developed?
He's well-rounded and not just in football, in life. I think he's grounded, and I think he's just genuine in everything he does. He's intentional. You just don't see that often, and especially as a rookie with the talent that he has, you really don't see it often.
You talked about Rachaad White's smartness to get down in that situation --
I mean, it's a very heads-up play by him. Something that we're trying to get the ball to the right hash, Chase (McLaughlin) likes it over there, trying to do that, and then Rachaad just being able to do that and execute it is huge. He had some unbelievable blitz pickups and protection today that doesn't get enough credit, but he did a hell of a job today.
Chase McLaughlin, a little under the weather --
Flu game.
Is this his flu game?
BAKER MAYFIELD: Yeah, it's his flu game. He's not exactly Michael Jordan in stature, but we'll take it.
On great plays making plays when you need it
Absolutely. Those guys have been doing it for us for a long time. I see their preparation every single week, every single day. It doesn't surprised me that they make the plays when the time comes to it.
On if it was a focus to get him more involved in the passing game
I don't know. We have some plays in for me every single week. I think the game kind of dictates what coach calls. I just always want to be ready for when the ball comes my way. If the ball isn't going to come my way or I'm blocking, I want to do my job to the best of my ability. I just want to make the plays when they come to me.

On Lavonte David's interception at the end of the game
He caught the ball, made the play. Made the interception. That's just what he does. Future Hall of Famer right there. Happy that he was able to make that.
On his pressure on that interception
I was just doing my job. Just trying to win the game. Any way that I can contribute.
On the defense having the mentality that they were going to get a stop on the last drive
Yeah, some how, some way. I said it to the guys before we went out there, two minute [drill], we run this every day so let's make a play and make it happen. That's what happened.
LB Lavonte David

On his interception, if Winfield putting pressure on Darnold affected the play
I believe so. I'm not sure. I think it got tipped as well. The ball was coming in my direction. I had to lock in and focus and make a play. We needed to play good, especially the way we played defensively. But that's definitely something to learn from. We're going to learn from it.
On his mentality during that Seattle drive
All 11 guys out there on the field was pissed off because we were in that situation. We shot ourselves in the foot throughout the whole game. We weren't making plays. They were capitalizing on things we were doing. It was a moment to rise. Somebody had to rise, and everybody had that attitude. That's what I love about this football team. Guys know the game's not over until the game is over. Today I was able to be the one who made the play.
On if he was zoning in on Kupp
Yeah, just the way the formation was. My coverage was to that side throughout the whole game. Every time they were in tight, he was coming out or going in. He was my coverage, so I had to drop his way, and I got a good read and I got into a good spot and read the quarterback. We got a good hit on him, and I believe the ball hit somebody's helmet; I'm not sure. But when I see the ball in the air coming my way, I had to have it. That's just what our mentality was going onto the field. Everybody. All 11 guys was, you know, pissed off for us for even being in that situation. That's what I love about these guys, man. No matter what's going on, we're going to fight to the end. Today I was able to come up with the big play. It's one of those games. I hate being in these types of games, but we were on the winning side. We definitely want to learn from this.

On how Tristan Wirfs opened up plays
Tristan Wirfs, big guy. You run behind him, a lot of paths will be open. Coach called a heck of a play to get (Tristan) Wirfs out in space. He's one of the most freakish athletes I've ever seen. Out in space, being able to pick up two guys, block them, and be able to move out in space and clear it out for you. You just go behind him and trust him.
LT Tristan Wirfs
Watch on https://www.buccaneers.com/video/
On how he enjoys blocking
Yeah absolutely. The gap stuff, I've got to get a lot better at. Early on, Leonard Williams swam outside and I fell on my face. I think I got him back later in the game, me and Cade (Otton) did. He did the same thing, and I was like 'Ok, I think this is coming.' Gaps, we've got to be a little bit better, but it was nice getting out on the edge. Getting out, pulling, and moving out in space again, I missed that.
