Students at Washington Middle School were surprised with a pep rally by the Seahawks, that included Blue Thunder, Seahawks Dancers and Seahawks Legend Lofa Tatupu. There was also a special appearance by Seattle music legend and lead guitarist for Pearl Jam, Mike McCready.

This event marked another community impacted for the Seahawks community's Impacting 50 Communities initiative for the 50th season.

At Washington Middle School, the music programs were at risk of losing funding and being downsized. Over 50 percent of the students at the middle school take music classes. The school didn't have funding for a band director position next year.

Friends of Washington Music (FOWM), Washington Middle School's Parent Teacher Student Association and the administration recently launched an Emergency Fundraising Campaign to raise the remaining funds.

Together with Safeway and the Vitalogy Foundation, the Seahawks donated $30,000 to the band and orchestra program.

McCready, who was in attendance, said, "I started playing guitar when I was 12 and immediately starting playing in band. It was my 'sport' at the time. Music to me, emotionally, was crucial in my development as a human being, and it is still to this day. We want to support any school that needs help with their music program. [With this school] we wanted to raise some awareness along with money there are so many kids' playing music here, and the need came up, and it was certainly worth supporting."

The Seattle Seahawks took part in 'Super Bowl Opening Night' on Monday, February 2 to kickoff Super Bowl LX week in the Bay Area.
