Undrafted Free Agents-16x9

The Seahawks signed 17 undrafted rookie free agents Friday prior to the start of rookie minicamp.

This year's undrafted free agent class is defense heavy, with 11 players on defense and six on offense, and that hardly comes as a surprise coming off a draft in which the Seahawks selected nine offensive players and just two defensive players.

Among the positions most heavily targeted by Seattle are those they didn't address in the draft, including outside linebacker (3), nose tackle (3) and cornerback (2).

While making the 53-man roster can be a tough task for undrafted rookies, the Seahawks have a strong history of those players getting a fair chance to compete for, and in some cases, win roster spots. At least two undrafted rookies have made Seattle's initial 53-man roster in each of the past three season, including three players currently on the team, receiver Jake Bobo, long snapper Chris Stoll and offensive lineman Jalen Sundell.

The Seahawks also have a rich history of turning undrafted linemen into big contributors during John Schneider's tenure as general manager, a list that includes Pro-Bowl receiver Doug Baldwin, receiver and postseason standout Jermaine Kearse, defensive back DeShawn Shead, defensive tackle Poona Ford, running back Thomas Rawls and tackle George Fant.
